Salary : $39,139.00 - $70,451.00 Annually Location : Hampton, VA Job Type: Full-Time Permanent Job Number: 08311 Department: REFUSE - STEAM PLANT OPER. Opening Date: 10/04/2024 Closing Date: Continuous Function The purpose of the class is to perform planned maintenance on equipment such as motors, lighting, cranes, conveyors, gear boxes, etc. The class works under close supervision according to set procedures. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED. Graduation from trade school in the area of machinist mechanic, boilermaker mechanic or steam fitter/welder preferred. Successful completion of Steam Plant Training Modules I and II within one (1) year of employment. Must successfully pass testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy. You must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Additional Requirements May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
