Work Schedule: Full time, 40 hours per week Day Shift For Information on Employee Benefits Salary Range: $39.95- $59.93 per hour The Clinical Informatics Specialist supports activities between Patient Care Services, Physicians, Advanced Practice Clinical Providers, and Information Systems to assist in the design, development, maintenance and training for assigned clinical systems to support the care of patients. Duties: Supports the Director of Information Systems to ensure user needs, information services and support are met in the clinical area. Possesses expert knowledge of the hospital's computer systems in the areas of responsibility and general knowledge of assigned module's interrelationships with other segments of the system. Maintains and develops clinical information support for the objective of quality patient care, cost effective operations and clinical decision making. Responsible for improvements, enhancements and modifications of application software to ensure flexibility, reliability and adherence to strategic planning guidelines and standards. Responsible for providing necessary resources to satisfy user needs based on established user project plans by: Assisting clinical department directors in identifying clinical departmental information requirements. Serving as a liaison between clinical departments and information services staff. Providing ongoing clinical application training. Supporting and providing clinical application testing. Supporting and providing development of documentation policies and procedures surrounding computer systems. Contributes to the development of methods for collecting, organizing, and reporting data and will collaborate with other departments to achieve optimum use of the clinical system. Collaborates with key stakeholders, end users and team members, to identify and resolve issues throughout phases of assessment, design, build, testing, training and implementation. Contributes to the investigation, development, and implementation of new technology as it relates to clinical practice and serves as a liaison between the clinical and the technical personnel. Analyzes pre-innovation workflow and processes and the impact new innovations may have on all affected clinicians and their workflow post-implementation, as well as participates in the implementation of new technologies in order to facilitate process improvement. Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application, while continually monitoring and evaluating opportunities for technological enhancements. Collaborates with Medical Staff to implement and maintain clinical pathways. Participates on committees as requested. Keeps abreast of current trends and developments in the field. Must have demonstrated ability to interact positively with Administration, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, peers, co-workers, subordinates, patients and visitors. Must meet regular attendance standard and must stay at or below average sick leave utilization levels. Skills/Qualifications: General knowledge of the overall hospital operation. Working knowledge of the process of delivery of patient care services in an acute care facility. This process covers the spectrum from patient entry into the health care system through and after discharge. Must understand the supporting activities of nursing services, the ancillary departments, medical records, utilization review, quality assurance and admitting/registration functions. Proven project management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail and follow-through attitude. Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Ability to flourish in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a project team. Ability to work extended hours to meet deadlines as necessary. May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees. Lift, move and/or load 25 pounds of computer forms, paper or devices frequently. Staff must recognize age differences and respond appropriately to their needs. Requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or clinical-related degree program required; additional education, training or certification in information systems preferred. Five (5) years of clinical experience in an Acute Care, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, or Surgical Services department setting required. Experience as a member of a clinical implementation team having participated in the implementation of at least one clinical software program used to document patient care required. Meditech experience strongly preferred. Possess a strong understanding of and experience in information systems design, integration and functionality. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to inside environmental conditions, protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The employee may be exposed to dust, pollens, pollutants, fumes and communicable diseases as related to a health care environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Physical Demands: While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, and have hearing sufficient to understand conversations, both in person and on the telephone. The employee is often required to sit for potentially long periods of time throughout the workday. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arm. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus sufficient to operate computer systems.
