Construction Engineer and Inspection (CEI) Intern Summer 2025 Fayetteville, NC Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Engineer and Inspection (CEI) Intern join our team in May of 2025 for a 12-week internship in the Fayetteville, NC office. The CEI Intern will assist our team with infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges, and utilities. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world scenarios and develop practical skills in the field of construction engineering and inspection. The intern will work under the guidance of experienced professionals and support various aspects of project management, quality assurance, and field inspections. All employment offers are contingent upon the applicant successfully completing drug and background screenings. Once qualified candidates have been identified, the recruiting team will schedule interviews. This internship spans 12 weeks, beginning sometime in May and ending in August. The exact start and end dates will be determined during the recruitment process. Responsibilities Assist with field inspections to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and relevant regulations. Collaborate with senior engineers and inspectors to conduct quality assurance and quality control checks on construction activities. Document and maintain accurate records of construction progress, material deliveries, and site conditions. Review project plans, drawings, and specifications to gain a comprehensive understanding of construction requirements. Monitor and report on construction activities, identifying any deviations or issues that require attention. Assist in the preparation of progress reports, inspection reports, and project documentation. Participate in meetings with project stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Support the implementation of safety protocols and ensure adherence to established safety guidelines. *Note: This job description is intended to convey the general nature and level of work expected for this position. Knowledge of construction practices, materials, and techniques. Familiarity with reading and interpreting project plans, specifications, and drawings. Proficiency in using construction management software and tools. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate results. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and work conditions. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. Must complete a pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace. Education and Experience Requirements Must be actively pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited college or university. Academic Junior or Senior preferred. Prior internship experience is preferred, but not required. ICE interns are paired with more experienced staff members in order to provide guidance and support throughout the internship process. They will report directly to a team lead who will provide regular feedback, special training, guidance, evaluation, and support. The lead will provide information about their career path, as well as assisting the intern with exploring career opportunities at the firm, setting goals, developing contacts, and identifying resources. Collaborative learning also involves learning from peers and fellow interns. The primary goal of the internship is to gain as much experience as possible. While an intern may not have major tasks assigned to them, they should pay close attention to all the steps that go into completing the project. At the end of the internship, the intern should be confident to individually manage project tasks and work independently. Physical and Environmental Requirements The role involves moderate physical activity such as walking, standing, bending, and climbing stairs or ladders. Employees may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds. It is essential for employees to navigate construction sites skillfully and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods. Employees must be capable of working in varied environmental conditions, including hot, cold, and noisy settings, and be able to stand and walk during site visits. Additionally, working on construction projects may involve night work and weekend work depending on the project scope and may include working in conditions with active traffic. Expected Hours of Work The ICE offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule. This is an onsite position reporting to the ICE office 5 days a week.
