Introduction The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF), Division of Milwaukee Child Protective Services (DMCPS), Medical and Behavioral Health Section (MBHS) is currently recruiting to fill a n Initial Assessment Nurse Consultant position in Milwaukee, WI. DMCPS works with families to ensure the safety and well-being of children. With its many community partners, DMCPS provides services to families in crisis that help keep children safely in the home. When it is necessary, DMCPS looks to foster and adoptive families to provide appropriate temporary and permanent homes for children who cannot live with their parents. The Health Section identifies and addresses the unique health needs of children served by CPS across the child welfare continuum of Access, Initial Assessment, and In-Home Services, and Ongoing Case Management services. Principal role of the Initial Assessment nurses is to provide consultation and medical expertise to assist Initial Assessment Specialists in the identification and interpretation of medical concerns and developmental vulnerabilities that may impact child safety. This position is full-time, 80% FTE (32 hours per week) . This vacancy comes with the full health/dental benefits package and prorated leave balances. This position is headquartered at our DMCPS Office at 635 N. 26 th St. in Milwaukee, WI and will have the option to work hybrid for up to 5 days per week. Employees are expected to work within the State of Wisconsin. This schedule may change based on training or operational needs. Position Summary This position is located within the Division of Milwaukee Child Protective Services (DMCPS) and provides consultation and medical expertise to assist the Initial Assessment and Access staff and contracted staff of the DMCPS by systematically collecting, recording, analyzing and translating pertinent available information on the child's health status and any health and/or developmental vulnerabilities with children who may be victims of child abuse and/or neglect. This position works with community physicians and health care professionals to establish improved reporting and communication between the medical provider community and DMCPS that would facilitate the integration of relevant medical information into DMCPS decision making. This position works in collaboration with children's other health and social service providers to facilitate the delivery of age appropriate health and development services to children assigned to the DMCPS. In addition this position provides nursing consultation to initial assessment specialists who ensure comprehensive health assessments occur and plan for periodic ongoing health monitoring. This position provides mainly a consultative/care management role with some indirect service responsibilities. This position works under the general supervision of the DMCPS Medical Unit Manager. On occasion, the incumbent will jointly perform home visits with the Initial Assessment specialist separate from the initial F2F, not inclusive of direct nursing services. View the complete position description . Salary Information The classification title for this position is Nursing Consultant 1. The salary is between $35.00 and $42.00 per hour ($72,800-$87,360 annually), depending on qualifications. The pay schedule/range is 11-04. A one-year probationary period may be required. Pay for current State of WI employees will be based on the compensation plan in effect at the time of the appointment. Pay for current state employees who are transferring will be determined based upon the pay on transfer rules (higher level duties or equity) as outlined in the compensation plan in effect at the time of appointment. Job Details Due to the nature of the position, final candidates may be required to allow DCF to conduct a security background check to determine whether the circumstances of any pending charges or convictions would be substantially related to the job being filled. Qualifications Minimally qualified applicants will have: Registration or the ability to register as a nurse in the State of Wisconsin (Must be registered by time of appointment). Clinical experience in pediatric nursing. Nursing experience with an emphasis on the clinical assessment and care of neglected infants, children, or young adults. Experience writing case notes. Excellent oral communication skills. Experience using critical thinking skills to solve problems. Well qualified applicants will have: Experience working with medically fragile infants, children with chronic conditions, and/or those with a history of developmental or emotional concerns. Nursing experience providing home health nursing/home visitation program. Experience analyzing, interpreting, and relating medical information to the social, psychological, and economic needs of children and families. Physical Requirements: The requirements of this position require the ability to stoop, bend, reach, kneel, squat, and to lift and carry young children (up to 40 lbs).
