ABOUT THIS POSITION The Water Services Department's Environmental & Safety Division (ESD) is seeking a Laboratory Quality Assurance Chemist III. The Water Services Department's Environmental & Safety Division (ESD) ensures that City water and wastewater facilities protect public health and the environment by maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements. The Chemist III Quality Assurance (QA) Specialty position will manage the QA section comprised of five staff members. The incumbent will be responsible for: General administration, development, oversight, and implementation of the Environmental & Safety Division quality control and quality assurance systems, Scheduling audits, Training, Preparing documentation for auditors, Coordinating with auditors, Corrective action reports, Proficiency testing program oversight, Standard operating procedures annual reviews to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements, Maintain licensure and accreditations for lab and field staff. IDEAL CANDIDATE Ability to plan and supervise quality assurance staff and oversee division compliance with established quality objectives which include root cause analysis, corrective actions, and document control. Ability to communicate effectively to work with regulatory and accrediting agencies related to licensing and accrediting issues. Familiarity with analytical instrumentation including mass spectrometry (i.e. GC, GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP, ICP/MS) Knowledge of State and Federal laboratory and sampling requirements for water and wastewater is necessary. Knowledge of Arizona Data Qualifiers and their appropriate use. SALARY Pay Range: $74,796.80 - $110,510.40 annually Hiring Range: $74,796.80 - $100,235.20 annually Pay Range Explanation: Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. For more details, visit: Unit 007 Benefits MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Five years of supervisory experience in professional environmental laboratory work Bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology, or a related field Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: A minimum of 24.0 college credit hours in Chemistry to serve as the Chemistry Technical Director for our NELAC accreditation. Experience in/with the following: General administration, development, oversight, and implementation of the Division's quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) system. Working with analytical and monitoring groups to ensure comprehensive root cause analysis of corrective actions. Conducting internal audits and coordinating external audits.
