HIRING RATE : $34.32/ hour, plus a comprehensive benefits package to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System UNDERFILL HIRING RATE: $27.45 hourly, plus comprehensive benefits package to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System P LEASE NOTE : P osition requires a comprehensive background screening Under general supervision, performs professional nursing care of moderate difficulty within the scope of practice for RN's in a detention/jail setting; performs related work as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Essential Functions Detention Nurse I Provides nursing care to adults and juveniles confined to a detention or jail facility; reviews and provides correct prescriptions/medications to individuals in the detention or jail facility; assess and evaluate all individuals under care for health and disease prevention and restoration; works closely with physicians in providing appropriate health care; makes medical decisions in emergency situations; advises detention and jail staff on medical questions and makes recommendations; prepares and maintains reports, records and files. Detention Nurse II Provides nursing care to adults and juveniles confined to a detention or jail facility; reviews and provides correct prescriptions, medications and treatments to individuals in the detention or jail facility; assess and evaluate all individuals under care for health and disease prevention and restoration; works closely with physicians in providing appropriate health care; makes medical decisions in emergency situations; advises detention and jail staff on medical questions and makes recommendations; assists in department budget processing; develops and implements medical policies/procedures and nursing protocols for detention/jail nursing staff; inventories and requisitions medical supplies and equipment; oversees medical contracts for detention/jail facilities; prepares and maintains reports, records and files. May delegate tasks to LPNs and Technicians in accordance with AZBN as needed. Minimum Qualifications Detention Nurse I MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Must possess and maintain an unrestricted license in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing; and one (1) year of experience as an LPN or RN performing acute or urgent care nursing; must have current CPR Certification (or must obtain before beginning employment); must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation. Successful completion of mandatory pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing are required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered. Detention Nurse II MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Must possess and maintain an unrestricted license in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the Arizona State Board of Nursing; and two (2) years of nursing experience as an LPN or RN, one (1) year of which must have been performing direct patient care and/or acute or urgent care. Must have current CPR Certification (or must obtain before beginning employment); must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation. Successful completion of mandatory pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing are required. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Detention Nurse I Considerable knowledge of: professional nursing theories, principles and practices; health and disease prevention; acute and urgent medical care. Good knowledge of: regulations and procedures of hospitals and clinics as they relate to nursing; policies and procedures of detention and jail facilities; health education and preventive practices. Ability to: work in a challenging environment; be on-call and work varying schedules to include weekends, holidays and evenings; act quickly and calmly with proper judgements in emergency situations; solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; follow written and verbal instruction; read, write and speak English; communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Detention Nurse II Considerable knowledge of: professional nursing theories, principles and practices; health and disease prevention; acute and urgent medical care. Good knowledge of: regulations and procedures of acute care facilities and clinics as they relate to nursing; policies and procedures of detention and jail facilities; health education and preventive practices; principles and practices of management and supervision; medical contract administration. Ability to: work in a challenging environment; be on-call and work varying schedules to include weekends, holidays and evenings; act quickly and calmly with proper judgements in emergency situations; solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical/mental health and detention staff as well as other agencies, attorneys, probation officers and the public; read, write and speak English; follow written and verbal instruction; communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Detention Nurse I and II WORK ENVIRONMENT : Work is primarily performed under general supervision in a detention or jail facility with appropriate climate controls where the possibility of physical violence and harm exists. Requires working evenings and holidays as scheduled. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Essential functions of this position require: manual dexterity, fine motor skills, ability to communicate, lifting, kneeling, squatting, climbing, crawling, stooping, turning/twisting, balancing, reaching and handling with varying frequencies. Heavy work: Occasional lifting and carrying objects up to 75 pounds, Frequent lifting and carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 10-20 pounds. Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem-solving skills are important.
