Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, MediSys Health Network Jamaica Hospital Medical Center (JHMC) located in Queens, New York, is seeking physicians specializing in Medical Oncology/Hematology to join its expanding Cancer program and related collaboration with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). JHMC is a well-established, safety-net hospital that first formally opened in 1891 and is recognized by Healthgrades as one of America's 250 top hospitals. It serves a diverse population with a strong emphasis on community outreach, engagement, and providing culturally sensitive care to the underserved in a welcoming environment. Many of the patients seen at JHMC face challenges rooted in the social determinants of health; many are non-English speaking and/or recent immigrants. In January 2023, JHMC/MediSys Health Network and MSKCC announced a new collaboration to enhance cancer care in Queens. It is envisioned that MSKCC will assist JHMC in building its own oncology program and related staffing through strategic recruitment and leveraging JMHC's many strengths, so it can address most of the oncologic care across the multidisciplinary cancer care continuum for the community it serves, while providing patients access to specialty care, services, and clinical trials not available at JHMC. Recent changes to New York State's policies will enable patients insured by Medicaid plans to obtain specialized oncology care including at MSKCC. Medical Oncology/Hematology care has been identified as an immediate recruitment priority in support of this exciting and innovative new collaboration. This is a full-time position emphasizing outstanding patient care, education and supporting research. It will be based at JHMC's main campus in Queens. The primary appointment for this position will be at JHMC; qualified candidates will be considered for cross-appointment at MSK including membership in MSK's multidisciplinary Disease Management Team program. Requirements Qualified candidates will have: Recognition as an outstanding clinician. Extensive knowledge of the fields of medicine applicable to the oncology setting. Credentials warranting appointment at an AssistantAttending/Assistant Professor or higher level. • Board-certifications in both Medical Oncology and Hematology preferred; board-eligible candidates planning to obtain these board-certifications are welcome to apply, as are candidates certified in Medical Oncology or Hematology. • Eligible for licensure in New York State. • An interest in health equity/care for disadvantaged communities; prior experience working in these communities is desirable. • A compassionate person, culturally sensitive. • A collaborative/team player • Interest in program building; dynamic interests to support that (e.g., quality improvement; information technology). Effort Profile: JHMC faculty dedicate their effort in several domains: clinical care, teaching, supporting research, administration, citizenship, and professional activities. Effort profiles allocate time across these categories. This effort allocation will be reviewed annually by the JHMC Medical Oncology Service Chief and can be adjusted over time to reflect shifts in roles, responsibilities, and interests. Providing outstanding clinical care will be a central focus for this position. Clinical Effort, Responsibilities and Resources: The time dedicated to clinical care will entail 4 full days in the outpatient clinic per week. In addition, coverage for inpatient consults and related weekend, holiday, and backup coverage is required according to a schedule specific to the oncology service. Outpatient clinic time will be adjusted as needed to accommodate these other coverage responsibilities. Customary administrative, nursing, navigator and computer support will be provided, as well as access to MSKCC educational programs. Reporting Relationships Reports to: JHMC Medical Oncology Service Chief; JHMC Chair Department of Medicine; and for candidates receiving an MSK appointment, to relevant MSKCC Division Head and Service Chief. Inquiries: Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and curriculum vitae by email to: David G. Pfister, MD Chief, Medical Oncology Service, JHMC Associate Deputy Physician-in-Chief, Strategic Partnerships, MSKCC Closing: JHMC is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer committed to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of recruiting and employment.
