Job Summary: The Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development and implementation of automated control systems, as well as identifying and implementing automation and controls improvements. Reporting to Engineering Manager, the Controls Engineer is also responsible for driving Automation, Controls and Electrical standards throughout the organization, as well as supporting the Maintenance Department in troubleshooting electrical and controls issues as they arise. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities: Automation and Controls Improvement of Plant Systems and Equipment Work with Maintenance, QC, and Operations to identify areas requiring automation upgrades, then design and implement solutions. Support the maintenance department in the day-to-day controls issues as they arise. Drive automation standards throughout the organization via improvement initiatives. Work with the Maintenance Team(s) on implementing Predictive Technologies in the Plant(s). Conduct Training with the Maintenance, QA and Ops Teams on equipment and technical systems. Through research, study and observation, ensure understanding of all equipment and technical systems in the plant(s). Present new techniques and processes to the plant teams that may improve performance. Capital Project Engineering Design specifications (Controls, Electrical, Automation, etc.). Electrical and Controls Project Scopes. Layouts, Solid Models and P&IDs. Job Walks, Quotes, Schedules and Timelines. Capital Expenditure Requests (CER) Control Design and Implementation, Commissioning. Project Documentation. Obtain Equipment Electrical and Controls specifications. Oversee Installation and Contractors. Required Skills/Abilities: Experience with Controls and Automation hardware (Allen Bradley, IDEC, IFM, etc.) Intermediate to Advance knowledge of PLC/HMI software (Rockwell Automation RS Logix 500, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View ME, Ignition, Automation Organizer) Working knowledge of Motor Control Centers (VFD, Full Voltage Starters, Servo Drives) Experience designing, building, and installing Equipment Control Panels. Good understanding of complex Process Systems architecture & design, Instrumentation, Device Selection, Networking, PLC & I/O architectures, data sheets, and SCADA. Effective verbal and written English communication skills. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software, especially Excel. Experience using AutoCAD preferred. Strong Electrical troubleshooting skills for both High and Low Voltage Systems. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Compliance with all laws and rules, especially with respect to Food Safety, Sanitation, Personal Safety and Environmental. Must be able to work flexible hours Must be able to take support calls after normal working hours and troubleshoot remotely Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or Mechatronics required. Minimum of three (3) years experience in Electrical Controls Design required. Minimum of three (3) years experience in Rockwell Automation PLC and HMI programming required. Minimum of one (1) years experience in Inductive Automation-Ignition HMI programming required. Minimum of two (2) years experience in Electrical Distribution Design preferred. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and lifting. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. Up to 25% travel may be required.
