Summary: The Backhoe Operator will operate specialized vehicles and earth movers. Operators move earth, equipment, tools and materials safely into place. Duties and Responsibilities: Operate a variety of equipment once certified, Daily pre-shift vehicle and equipment inspections, Operate equipment in close proximity to workers and underground utilities, Perform daily safety, maintenance checks to ensure proper functioning of the equipment, Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading, Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging (test pitting), Perform minor servicing and refer major problems to the supervisor, Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards, Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications, Knowledge of weight requirements of loads, Lift and move materials and objects and operate according to signals from others, Adapt to new and different job sites and team members, Dig, spread and levels dirt, gravel or sand, Adheres to all safety policies, ```{=html} ``` - Must wear proper attire at all times including: safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image, ```{=html} ``` - May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends, - Additional duties as assigned. Job Requirements: Must have operators license in DC, Must possess a valid unrestricted drivers license, Minimum of two (2) years of experience, High school diploma or equivalent required, Must have physical strength to operate heavy and power-driven equipment, Manage emergency situations, work pressure and stress, Ability to complete work projects on time and in an effective manner, ```{=html} ``` - COVID-19, vaccination is highly recommended, - Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening. Working Conditions: This job may require you to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends. This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat twist, and climb heavy equipment several times throughout the day. In addition, you must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job. This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces, as well as working in confined areas. This job requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time. This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts). This job requires the ability to perform essential job tasks in less than favorable job conditions. These may include, but are not limited to: Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time. Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
