Facilities Specialist Job Details Job Location : UHSP main campus - St. Louis, MO Position Type : Staff (Full-time) Education Level : High School Travel Percentage : None Job Shift : Day shift Job Category : Facilities - maintenance, custodial services, management Summary Summary of Position The Facilities Specialist is responsible for basic maintenance work including event setup/teardown, basic plumbing, electrical and preventive maintenance duties such as replacing washers in valves, opening clogged drains, replacing light bulbs, building air filter changes, changing batteries in devices per schedule, water filter changes, etc. Assists with maintaining the campus grounds and facilities by supporting outdoor/lawn and custodial contractors with trash pickup, snow removal, glass cleaning, garage cleaning/power washing and maintaining dock areas. May be assigned to cleaning and maintaining specific buildings including sensitive areas of the UHSP campus, overseeing internal and/or external custodians ensuring quality and quantity of work. Specific Major Duties and Responsibilities Complete assigned work orders as appropriate as well as report on needed repairs immediately to supervisor (i.e. leaky faucets or toilets, loose tile, broken window panes, missing nuts or screws, beds needing repair, etc.) Assist with evet setup and tear down of seating, tables, stages, etc., as well as setups for classes. Perform basic plumbing work as assisting with repairs such as replacing washers in valves, opening clogged drains and stopped-up toilets. Perform basic electrical work by replacing light bulbs, faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures and equipment. Support preventive maintenance programs by performing such tasks as replacement of batteries in door "crash" bars, automated faucets, HVAC filter replacement, and ensure eye wash stations and emergency showers are functioning. Assist with groundskeeping, as necessary, perform inventory and clean snow removal equipment. Assist with snow removal during inclement weather. Operate various types of mechanized cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, polishers, buffers, etc. Strip and recoat all floor areas when necessary and scheduled. Maintain facility in a sanitary and infection-free condition through washing, cleaning and replacement of equipment and furnishings. Plan, coordinate, and assign special duties and tasks to housekeepers. Responsible for disposal of trash, waste, and other disposable materials. Assist with management of recycling efforts on the campus. Plan, coordinate and assign duties and tasks to housekeepers. Handle various cleaning solvents and chemicals. Must comply with all regulations such as OSHA, EPA, and State Health Department, etc. Comply with policies, laws and regulations governing environmental protection, safety, hazardous waste disposal and the use of chemical substances and materials. Contribute to an accident-free work environment by following safety protocols,, wearing personal protective equipment, and reporting incidents. Other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned. Considered "Critical Personnel" under the University's Special Pay Practices Policy meaning this position may be working at times outside the normal schedule or when the campus is closed because of the position's responsibility for essential functions such as snow removal and general campus safety. Qualifications To succeed in this role, you will need: High School Diploma or equivalent experience Experience with equipment-machinery-lawn snow removal equipment Experience in housekeeping Understanding of different uses of janitorial supplies Understanding of basic mechanic and electrical systems Strong customer service approach and good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The position requires the ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis; prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping and reaching on a daily basis, and working in confined spaces. Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically-powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout campus, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, occasionally in environments that are dusty, noisy or which could have work hazards.
