About The Role.... The Consumer Loan Underwriter is responsible for quality underwriting of Consumer and Indirect loans in a timely manner to include weekends and evenings. They will provide exceptional service to all applicants and our dealer partners working in conjunction with the credit union. In addition, provide effective and professional communication to members and employees with the specific goal of increasing membership and quality loan production. What You'll Do.... Analyzes loan information to render loan decisions for Consumer and Indirect loans. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate to members, dealer partners, and credit union staff both orally and in writing through various channels. Ability to read and interpret credit reports and explain information to internal and external members in addition to dealer partners as needed. Provides decision recommendations on loans that must be escalated to a higher loan authority. Effectively communicate with staff and dealer partners of counter-offers, loan stipulations, and denials. Responds to internal and external members via incoming and outgoing calls as well as through alternative channels such as email, dealer comments, etc. Possess a working knowledge of government rules and/or regulations related to consumer lending and fraud. Abides by all credit union policies, procedures, and protocols set forth in the departmental, VCCU policy manuals. Must keep up to date on any additional regulatory requirements as needed. Ability to prepare reports for management and monitor key data as to how well the department is functioning. Ability to work night and weekend hours as assigned. Other duties as assigned. The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities You'll Need.... At least one year of consumer lending underwriting experience required, two years is preferred Have a general knowledge of a financial institution's products and services, office equipment, and general business procedures Possess the abilities of a highly engaged, detail oriented and well organized individual Knowledge of and experience with financial services software applications and systems Ability to function at a high level in a high volume area Must possess good oral and written communication skills Must possess good underwriting skills Equal Opportunity Employer....
