The Mortgage Loan Consultant assists credit union members in obtaining home financing. Works with members to understand their needs and ensures that they acquire a loan product appropriate to their individual circumstances. Presents members with the best available product and rate options and makes recommendations. Counsels the borrower in the home buying and financing process, advises on the financial and long-term impact of various products. Completes detailed applications at times and locations convenient to clients. May spend significant time outside of the office in business development and consultation activities. Initiates the application process in accordance with all applicable corporate policies and federal/state regulations. Provides a high level of customer service by educating the member regarding the mortgage origination process, level setting the customer's expectations and keeping all parties to the transaction informed as to the status of the loan applications. Meet minimum volume thresholds. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct member financial needs analysis, reviewing credit and income documents. Educate and advise customers on which loan programs best fit their needs. Advise customers on suitable loan programs providing price quotes, performing thorough pre-qualification approvals, supplying fulfillment materials, etc. Operates in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to Reg B (ECOA), Reg C, Reg X, Reg Z and all Dodd Frank related regulations. Accept/originate loan applications through inbound and outbound channels. Build relationships with new and existing customers through inbound and outbound phone sales. Identify cross-sell opportunities; cross-sell and/or refer services to members. Assist the client through the mortgage process from application to close. Acts as a liaison between members and various departments. Obtain and analyze pertinent credit and income documentation. Determine credit worthiness in relation to proven capacity, credit, equity, and benefit. Assures that appropriate records are maintained and required reports are prepared. Required Skills and Experience: Two to Five years of similar or related experience. Possesses excellent sales skills balanced with a customer-friendly demeanor. Requires knowledge of conventional and/or government lending guidelines, residential mortgage processing, underwriting, and closing procedures and knowledge of federal lending regulations governing real estate lending. Education/Certifications/Licenses A college degree preferred. Interpersonal Skills A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary. Other Skills Demonstrated organizational skills and strong written and verbal communications skills. Demonstrated teamwork and customer service skills. Proven computer skills.
