Researchers interested in postdoctoral fellowships are invited to apply for positions as part of the group led by Dr. Sheeba Thomas, Professor, and Dr. Robert Orlowski, Florence Maude Thomas Cancer Research Professor and Director of the Myeloma Section in the Department of Lymphoma/Myeloma at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Our focus is on developing an expanded understanding of the molecular pathobiology of multiple myeloma and related disorders, validating novel targets and therapeutics that can be translated to the clinic, and understanding mechanisms of resistance that could serve as biomarkers and/or targets for chemosensitization. Current projects of interest focus on the activity of a novel, home-grown set of patented monoclonal antibodies that are showing immunomodulatory and direct cytotoxic activity against a variety of tumor models as naked antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates, and in chimeric antigen receptor guided T-cells. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Our research focuses on developing novel adoptive T-cell therapy approaches for hematological malignancies and solid tumors. The candidate will be involved in developing and evaluating novel adoptive T-cell therapy strategies including CAR-T and TCR-T, and viral- and tumor antigen-specific T cells in both in vitro and in vivo models. Candidates should be self-motivated, career-oriented, and should be capable of troubleshooting. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Applicants should be graduates with an M.D. and/or Ph.D. in immunology/immunotherapy with experience in T-cell culture, assays to assess T-cell function, animal experiments with syngeneic or xenograft tumor models, and T-cell biology. Experience in working with human immune and tumor cells, animal studies, retrovirus and/or lentiviral generation, molecular cloning, transduction of primary T cells, gene editing, and flow/mass cytometry is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, multiple publications, and strong reference letters are required.
