Position: Controls Engineer Location/s: Ashland, VA Duration: Full-time, Direct Hire Shift: 1st Shift Salary: $70,000 - $90,000/Annual JOB DESCRIPTION: A Material Handling Systems company is seeking an Electrical Designer, for a full-time salaried position in Ashland, VA. This is an office position, and remote work or work from home is unavailable. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: BS or associate's degree in electrical control design, and at least 2 years of relevant industrial motor control design experience are required. Overhead crane control system experience is a plus. QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Prior experience with industrial motor control system development is required Basic knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes and materials PRIOR EXPERIENCE with: Electro-mechanical products AC Motors DC Motors Variable Frequency Drives Familiarity with appropriate NEC and UL guidelines and processes Experience with general manufacturing processes Ability to manage multiple projects with a mix of technologies and deadlines Design experience utilizing computer-aided design using AutoCAD Electrical Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project. DESCRIPTION and RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop drawings and documentation as required on a "per job" basis using established guidelines and procedures. Provide technical support as required to FMH employees, as well as Material Handling Systems customers. Assist in training of control panel assembly technicians and apprentices as directed by the department manager. Assist in organizing and maintaining project components and panel shop inventory. Provide list of materials to be purchased on a per job basis to the purchasing manager. This list shall be sorted by vendor and will provide the complete part number to be purchased. When available, provide the current price and vendor contact information. Keep the department manager informed regarding progress or problems encountered in all phases of control design and assembly. Update all departmental checklists and paperwork in a timely manner. CONTROL DESIGN PROCESS for ELECTRICAL DESIGNERS: Complete pre-job screening and fill out screening form. Compare any available sales or customer correspondence to the working quote. Report any major cost or design discrepancies to supervisor. Order long lead time items as soon as possible. Complete schematic or wiring diagrams as required by job. Generate a complete bill of materials for the assembly of control panels. Release orders for remaining job components. Complete panel layout diagrams for panel assembly. Provide detailed terminal strip drawing for all control enclosures and junction boxes. Design festoons/E-Chain and order all required materials. Complete a pendant assembly diagram and order any materials that are not routinely kept in inventory. Review runway conductor and current collector requirements and release orders for these materials. Provide as built drawings prior to equipment ship date based on changes by crane assembly personnel. Copy all pertinent design materials to the appropriate directory and file on the main server. BENEFITS: Health Insurance covered for the employee.
