The Director of Operational Readiness provides overall leadership and management to the Readiness Department of the Field Services Division.The Director of Operational Readiness (the "Director") is responsible for providing the vision, leadership, and technical management skills necessary to accomplish the mission of operational readiness. The Director's primary responsibility is to ensure WDS ï¬eld staff and resources are sufficiently prepared to provide our service delivery product to meet the needs of our clients. This status of operational readiness is accomplished through two arms of the department: 1) national coordination and 2) training, safety, and compliance.The National Coordination function provides leadership and management to our Coordination Centers ("CC") to ensure our culture, knowledge, skills, and abilities are consistent and equivalent throughout the workforce; and provides the assurance that equipment and material are ready when in service and prepositioned at the proper scale in the appropriate geographic locations throughout the year. The Training, Safety, and Compliance function provides a pathway for employee professional development and long-term retention; establishes standards of operational practices to ensure a safe workplace; and provides a cadre of senior operators who ensure compliance with WDS policies, procedures, and doctrine during wildland ï¬re incidents. The Director works to ensure business goals and strategies are translated into actionable objectives and practices within the Readiness Department's programs. Direct Reports may include but are not limited to the National Coordination Manager and Training, Safety, and Compliance Manager. Company organizational structure may change to meet business objectives which could increase or reduce the number of direct reports to this position.This position is based out of either Bozeman, Montana or Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Relocation assistance may be provided. Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Director is accountable for the development and implementation of numerous operational programs that will result in the successful training, equipping, and allocation of personnel, materiel, and equipment. Due to the nature of the position, there is a travel requirement up to 30% of the time. The Director shall collaborate with the Senior Director of Field Operations to understand the long-term strategic business plan and develop strategies to implement at the operational level. This requires the employee to develop and maintain operational planning documents and frameworks to build the capacity to train and equip personnel, and ï¬eld necessary resources at the right time and geographic location.Due to the wide variety of employees and personalities the Director will encounter across the large geographic region and diverse staff, it is imperative that the employee has thorough education and experience in interpersonal dynamics, human motivational factors, and management theory combined with a long history of success managing people in a similar industry. The Director must carefully balance ï¬re operations and business needs and be capable of communicating complex issues to senior and junior audiences with diverse backgrounds and job requirements.The Director regularly communicates and collaborates with the Senior Manager of Current Operations, Program Management & Client Relations, People Operations, and Labor Relations to ensure all company and division goals, objectives, and expectations are being met. They are the conduit through which WDS initiatives are implemented throughout ï¬eld operations.They are expected to be a visionary leader and work closely with their staff, co-workers, and each Regional Coordination Center team to model, mentor, coach and facilitate success. To be successful in this role, the Director must be innovative, operationally agile, resilient, and adept at logistics while balancing complex decisions with business rules and goals. Job Requirements Required Qualiï¬cationsAny combination of accredited education, experience, and success as a senior-level leadership role in a highly complex resource management environment equivalent to a bachelor's degree or higher.Master's degree in public administration, emergency management, training, or business administration preferredVeriï¬able experience andor qualiï¬cations in an emergency management environmentRequired SkillsThe Director of Readiness must possess a comprehensive set of knowledge, skills, and abilities that ensure the ability to competently achieve success related to all the requirements and responsibilities described above. These skills must include:Minimum of ten years progressively increasing responsibility managing andor developing resources associated with complex emergency response over a large geographical areaProven ability applying and demonstrating leadership, management, and organizational skillsExcellent discipline, commitment, resolve, and motivation to achieve team success with minimal supervisionDemonstrated ability and history moving efficiently from concept to action. Expert problem- solving skillset that includes the ability to efficiently understand complex challenges, recognize gaps, navigate roadblocks, create solutions, and achieve outstanding outcomes for internal and external customersExpert ability to author strategic and operational plans, guidance references, and incident action plans to communicate goals, objectives, strategies, and tacticsExemplary understanding of the English language and vocabulary to efficiently articulate and communicate complex ideas and instructions through both written documents and verbal interactionsExpertise applying principles of the Incident Command System (ICS) consistent with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) or similar practices is preferredDemonstrated history of understanding and implementing a culture of safety consistent with federal and state level guidanceDemonstrated ability to make decisions that result in positive outcomes, as they relate to WDS employees and business goals while under pressure and facing time compressionStrong record of achievement in developing and implementing safety and training programs o Expert ability using latest technology and software including the Microsoft Office 365 suite of toolsWorking HoursThis is a full-time, FLSA exempt position. It is expected the employee works a schedule that is commensurate with the demands of the position.Full-time schedule will generally be 40 hours per week, 0800-1700 hours, Monday through Friday.
