Job Title Aerospace Engineer - Computational Aerosciences LAVA Location MOFFETT FIELD, CA 94035 US (Primary) Category Engineering, General Laborer Job Type Full-Time Compensation Minimum (USD) $120,000 Compensation Maximum (USD) $125,000 Education Master's Degree Minimum Citizenship Status Required U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident Security Clearance Required None Job Description STC supports the projects and programs of the NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) Division (Code TN), Computational Aero sciences Branch (Code TNA) that is part of the Exploration Systems Development Mission at the NASA Ames Research Center. The TNA team develops, enhances, and applies physics-based predictive capabilities in computational aero sciences, and performs large-scale simulations that advance the goals of the NASA Aeronautics Research and Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorates. Responsibilities Team members utilize TNA-developed simulation tools on the NAS High End Computing (HEC) systems to help design and analyze next-generation aircraft and spacecraft. Projects focused on design include adjoint-based aerodynamic shape optimization of concept aircraft and of propulsion-airframe integration strategies. Projects focused on analysis range from generating aero-databases for next generation of airplanes and space vehicles to performing detailed scale-resolving simulations of these vehicles. Efforts include (a) provision of effective, production-level HEC resources and services that make significant, timely impacts across NASA's mission areas of Earth and space science, aeronautics research, and human and robotic space exploration; (b) design and conduct of high-fidelity numerical simulation studies for NASA's aerospace engineering programs, supporting both mission-critical and system design decisions; (c) Research fundamental advances in numerical methodologies and algorithms, physical model enhancements, and application code development for large-scale simulations of interest to NASA. This specific position is to support the TNA Launch Ascent and Vehicle Aerodynamics (LAVA) Group. The group is responsible for running CFD simulations for many different applications. Job Requirements A well-qualified candidate will have the following: an M.S. level degree or higher in aerospace engineering or related major; and at least 3 years practical CFD experience. Further requirements include a broad experience in the CFD workflow including CAD, grid generation, running flow solvers, extracting aerodynamic performance data, and building databases. Broad computer programming experience is required, with proficiency in several languages including shell programming and Python. Fortran and C proficiency, as well as Linux experience are all highly desirable. Experience in CFD analysis of aerospace configurations is highly desirable.
