Salary: $32.68 - $37.16 Hourly Location : County Administration Building 300 Monroe Avenue NW Grand Rapids Job Type: Full-time Job Number: Department: Office of Public Defender Opening Date: 10/11/2024 Closing Date: 10/25/2024 11:59 PM Eastern Job Responsibilities Kent County is excited to announce the Office of the Public Defender. This new department will expand and enhance the criminal defense system presently offered to indigent defendants in Kent County. At this time, we are seeking to hire Investigators. Work is performed under general supervision in this team-oriented office. In this professional role, responsibilities include: Locating and interviewing witnesses. Visiting incident scenes. Finding or validating evidence. Serving subpoenas. Appearing as a witness and testifies at trials if needed. Many other duties as required. Investigators at the Office are integral parts of the defense team who demonstrate a commitment to serving marginalized persons and communities. Minimum Qualifications Associates degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, sociology, legal studies, or other relevant field with at least one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in criminal justice investigations; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Must be licensed as an investigator with the State of Michigan and provide proof of such license. Must possess valid Michigan driver's license. Paid Time Off Full Time: Pro-rated amount of 80 hours based on number remaining months in the year at time of hire. 80 hours on the payroll at the start of the year Part Time: Pro-rated amount of 40 hours based on number remaining months in the year at time of hire. 40 hours on the payroll at the start of the year Unused paid time off will be transferred to the employee's reserve sick leave bank up to 182 hours immediately prior to the issuance of the annual paid time off credit. Hours in excess of 182 hours will be placed in employee's retirement bonus bank. Paid Parental Leave 80 hours of paid time off for birth of a child or temporary placement of the child for adoption. Overtime Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime at a rate of time and one half (1½) their normal hourly rate for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week. Tuition Reimbursement $365 per credit hour; maximum of 9 credit hours per year (see policy for eligibility) -Part-time employees not eligible Mileage Published IRS Rate Deferred Compensation Enrollment first of each month with a minimum investment of $25 per pay period Retirement/Defined Pension Mandatory participation in a Contributory Defined Benefit Pension Plan. Employee contribution is 9.21% of pre-tax earnings Supplement to Medical Benefits Premium Based on years of service, employees may be eligible for a medical benefits premium supplement. *Kent County reserves the right to modify Management Pay Plan benefits.
