Summary: Under general supervision of the Clinical Manager or their designee receives and maintains stock levels for dialysis unit. Sets up dialysis equipment and procedure room in preparation for patient treatments; ensures cleanliness including disinfecting equipment and supplies. As necessary assists in escort transport and positioning of patients. Responsibilities: Receives materials and verifies contents by reviewing against packing slips receiving slips purchase orders etc. Unpacks bulk supplies and visually checks contents for damaged items. May break down bulk quantities into requisition sizes. Stores supplies in proper areas according to established systems with particular attention to items having specific storage (e.g. refrigeration or security requirements). Maintains stock areas in clean and orderly manner. Assures that inventory items are rotated as necessary with attention to perishables or items with utilization or expiration dates. Returns items that are no longer usable. Receives and fills requests for materials by authorized personnel following established procedures. Identifies counts and may weigh items. Continuously monitors consumption of supplies against stock on hand and anticipated shipments. May recommend change in timing of special and standing orders to assure adequate supply of all necessary items. Prepares orders by completing forms to reorder items that are depleted: e.g. routine toiletries or IV solutions from Pharmacy. Interacts with vendors to check on or expedite delivery of orders or regarding the return of merchandise. Interacts with Hospital accounting and purchasing personnel regarding payments and/or cancellation of orders. Maintains logs of materials received on-hand and issued as well as related files of purchase orders charge information vendor information etc. Enters data onto computer terminal to record information such as requisition receipt and issue of supplies. Performs other related duties such as answering telephone relaying messages conducting stock audits and reconciliation cleaning work area and photocopying. May assist department by obtaining arranging setting up and cleaning supplies and equipment to be utilized during treatments or procedures. Picks up and delivers supplies and materials as required. Transports patients to procedure area when Central Transport Service is not available. Cleans equipment such as carts portable IV stands pumps defibrillators. Changes suction canisters. Cleans and wraps items and delivers to central stores for sterilization. Checks emergency equipment as designated by manager. Assists nursing staff in lifting or positioning patient or when getting patients out of bed. Keeps patient rooms in orderly manner and makes up beds for patients as assigned. Sets up dialysis equipment in preparation for use by nursing personnel. Prepares bicarbonate solution. Rinses sets up and primes equipment with prepared solution. Disposes of expendable supplies cleans equipment with disinfectant solution. Maintains a safe and clean work environment Other information: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: High school level of education with ability to read write and speak English. Numerical ability to prepare and maintain records and to accurately measure materials for solution preparation. Organizational and clerical abilities to prepare and maintain records. Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients visitors physicians hospital staff at all levels and out side vendors. Current CPR certification required; successful completion of such training will be required within six months of selection for job for candidates not already certified in CPR. Physical ability to lift heavy supplies (up to 40 pounds). EXPERIENCE: Six months prior related experience demonstrating skills in cleaning and setting up patient care areas maintaining equipment and supplies required. Additional one-three months on-the-job experience to become familiar with the department-specific policies and procedures. WORKING CONDITIONS: Patient care environment. Some exposure to dust and dirt from packaging materials as well as exposure to contaminated items. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions infection control department and hospital policies and procedures. Considerable standing walking lifting and pushing to unload store and distribute materials as well as transport and assist in lifting and positioning patients. SUPERVISION: None.
