Salary: $47,395.00 - $83,939.00 Annually Location : Upper Marlboro, MD Job Type: Career Job Number: 10895 Department: PGC Parks and Recreation Division: Natural and Historical Res Opening Date: 10/09/2024 Closing Date: 11/8/2024 11:59 PM Eastern Description The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking an experienced person to lead and work alongside a small team of career and part time maintenance staff. This position will be based out of Patuxent River Park (PRP), an 8,000 acre collection of riverfront park properties and reports to the Park Manager 2. The PRP headquarters is located at Jug Bay Natural Area in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This is a full time, career position with benefits. The work schedule is Monday - Friday from 6:00am - 2:45pm. Under general supervision, the hired candidate performs general and skilled park maintenance work involving considerable responsibility, complexity and variety. After being given assignments from the Park Manager 2, the incumbent will lead and direct the day-to-day activities of a team of park general maintenance workers and part-time staff at multiple properties to perform various tasks including groundskeeping, custodial, building maintenance, equipment maintenance, snow removal, trail maintenance, and more. This position helps plan, schedule, assign, monitor work and train staff in equipment operation, grounds maintenance , and safety procedures and practices. This position may be responsible for planning and executing special projects or events that involve considerable coordination of other entities within or outside the Department. Other related duties may also be assigned. Examples of Important Duties Perform general maintenance which includes mowing operations, trash operations, janitorial duties, trail maintenance, building maintenance and repair, snow removal operations, etc. Lead several staff on daily assignments and ensure work is completed at satisfactory level Assist with worker development and provide input with hirings and evaluations Work closely with supervisor to assist with operations and management by communicating needs and suggestions from the field Operate power tools such as chain saws, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, drills, etc. Perform safety checks and minor maintenance on equipment. Operate a full range of vehicles and equipment including trucks with trailers, buses, UTVs, tractors, mowers, boats, power tools, etc. Utilize computers to send and receive work assignment information Wear assigned uniform and follow dress code at all times Follow Department procurement policies. Obtain quotes to procure materials and services as needed. Regularly perform vehicle inspections; as needed to include preventive maintenance and care of vehicles. Coordinate tools, equipment, materials and supplies needed for projects. Apply pesticides as needed in accordance with Department policies Perform other related duties as needed. Serve as Manager On Duty as needed IMPORTANT WORKER CHARACTERISTICS: Considerable knowledge of methods and procedures for maintaining parks, park facilities and park equipment and the ability to perform such duties: 1) Effective instruction, training, and supervision methods and techniques 2) Ability to effectively direct the work of others 3) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers 4)Effective written and spoken communication skills including the ability to accurately compile and maintain records and reports 5) Knowledge of CPR and First Aid 6) Knowledge of Commission organization, policies, and procedures (developed primarily after employment) 7) Ability to lead and complete tasks in a timely manner. 8) Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft office WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in indoor and outdoor settings; infrequently works weekends, evenings, and holidays; and exposed to inclement weather and outdoor hazard Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED). Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in ground maintenance, golf course maintenance, building maintenance or park maintenance. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment. Pass Commission medical examination.
