A nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental conservation is seeking a Paralegal for a 12-week contract to support their Urban Wildlands program. In this role, you will assist a team of 5 attorneys, primarily handling administrative and litigation support for California state court cases. This is a mostly remote role, but the candidate must be local to Oakland, CA for occasional on-site tasks (about once a week), such as document printing and filing.Key Responsibilities:Calendar Management: Under the direction of the attorney, update and manage litigation deadlines in Microsoft Outlook. The candidate will not be responsible for calculating dates but will ensure all dates are entered and maintained accurately as instructed by the attorneys.State Court E-Filing: Finalize documents in preparation for e-filing and handle the e-filing process for California state court cases. All tasks will be performed under the attorney's guidance to ensure compliance with filing rules and deadlines.Document Preparation: Draft templates for basic pleadings and finalize legal documents for filing, including motions and other court-related filings, following attorney directives.Administrative Support: Perform clerical duties such as organizing legal files, printing and preparing documents for filing, and managing tasks related to litigation preparation as directed by the attorneys.Legal Research: At the direction of the attorneys, research local court rules and civil procedures relevant to pleadings and filings.Filing and Service: Manage the in-service filing process, including running tasks such as printing documents and submitting filings via FedEx or other services, based on attorney instructions.Qualifications:Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a legal secretary, paralegal, or legal assistant with a focus on California state court filings.Skills: Proficiency in California State e-filing is mandatory, Adobe PDF, Microsoft Outlook, and basic legal research tools. Familiarity with California civil procedures and court rules is essential.Location: Must be local to Oakland, CA to attend on-site when terest in Environmental Law: Previous experience or a strong interest in environmental law, particularly with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), is a plus.
