Mission:Durin is a mining technology company pioneering the resource extraction operations of the future. We are developing autonomous drilling control technology to decrease the cost of mineral exploration. Our business provides core drilling services to mineral exploration companies, enabling discoveries of critical materials for national security and human flourishing.Our engineering team integrates cutting-edge rig monitoring and geophysical sensors with existing and in-house drilling rigs to develop performant autonomous systems capable of providing rapid and low-cost drilling services. The team iterates quickly, testing hardware in the field daily or weekly. Located in person in El Segundo, CA, the team collaborates closely, with all team members directly contributing to the core product.Objectives:Analyze the mechanical behavior of different rock formations and how they interact with drilling equipmentCollaborate with the Durin engineering to optimize drill designs and automation software for optimal drill performance, speed, and core recovery in various geological conditionsUse simulation software and laboratory data to model rock behavior under drilling forces, vibrations, and stress conditionsConduct field tests to evaluate drill performance in diverse rock types and recommend design improvementsDevelop and implement strategies to minimize drill wear, improve penetration rates, and reduce drilling costsProduce technical reports and documentation on findings, providing recommendations for design optimizations based on geomechanical dataCompetencies:2+ years of experience in rock mechanics, geomechanics, or geotechnical analysis, ideally in mining, construction, or drilling industriesBachelor's degree (or higher) in Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experienceProficiency in geomechanical modeling software and CAD toolsStrong understanding of the mechanical properties of rocks and their response to stress, pressure, and drilling forcesField experience in drilling operations and geotechnical surveysKnowledge of mineral exploration techniques and drilling equipmentExperience with field testing and working in rugged environments
