Job Description Summary The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for managing the student aid applicant process, utilizing a culturally competent and service-based approach to meet the needs of students and families while adhering to the policies and procedures mandated by federal, state, and institutional guidelines. The Financial Aid Advisor independently processes many of the elements of the student aid application and serves as the primary point of outreach and customer service for the applicant and family. This role represents the University of La Verne and its mission and values within the community. Minimum Qualifications Familiarity with higher education practices, especially in non-profit institutions. Familiarity with basic office equipment, and proficiency with email, spreadsheets, calendaring, and web based database tools. Ability to present training or recruitment information in a culturally competent and effective manner for both large and small group settings. Ability to maintain the strictest of confidentiality as required by FERPA and the Privacy Act of 1974. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally both orally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications Prior engagement with FSA, NASFAA, CASFAA, or other professional association training and certification opportunities. Familiarity with University of La Verne policies and procedures. Location La Verne Main Campus Number of Vacancies 1 Duties Specific Duties Counsels students and families on the financial aid application process, funds eligibility, satisfactory academic progress requirements, file verification and revie w processes, and the rights and responsibilities of the financial aid recipient. Counseling may take place in person, over videoconference, via phone and email communications. Percentage Of Time Specific Duties Reviews student aid files for accuracy, resolving discrepant data and eligibility factors (C -flags) . As a member of the special circumstances review committee, determines legitimacy of student eligibility and exceptions to criteria, enacting approved changes as professional judgments. Percentage Of Time Specific Duties Review and make manual adjustments to student financial aid files when necessary. Review reports to verify continued eligibility and resolve discrepancies. Enacting student-specific review by request from the Director or Associate Director, coordinating any changes to other aid benefits and ensuring accuracy of outcomes. Make recommendations to the Associate Director and Director for process and policy improvements. Percentage Of Time Specific Duties Participates in university recruitment and regional outreach events, including public presentations during open house, orientation, local college nights and aid workshops. Serves the needs of the community and recruitment efforts both virtually and in person. Percentage Of Time Specific Duties Serve as liaison to promote adherence to policy and procedure within the university community amongst staff, faculty, and students. Engage in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and institutional aid policies and programs. Be a culturally competent employee who completes mandatory diversity andinclusivity trainings as provided by the university. Percentage Of Time Specific Duties Clerical and other duties as assigned.
