Job Summary Under general supervision, is responsible for performing skilledadvanced journeyman-level work in the installation, maintenance, andrepair of both high and low-voltage electrical systems and equipment.May exercise supervision over assigned staff. Work Location 318 N. Las Moras St. Work Hours 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday Essential Job Functions Installs, alters, repairs, and maintains both high and low voltage motors, generators, motor controllers, panel boxes, transformers, and wiring systems, which involves frequently lifting and carrying equipment weighing 30 pounds. Troubleshoots electrical systems to diagnose electrical problems and performs required repairs. Installs, alters, repairs, and maintains special metering, control, telemetering, and recording equipment. Makes estimates of required time and materials needed to complete assigned task or jobs. Maintains accurate records of time and materials used in the maintenance and repair history of all electrical equipment. Performs high and low voltage electrical hookups for special events. Operates electrical tools to install and perform general maintenance on lighting systems, fixtures, and equipment. Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Job Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency). Two (2) years of experience as a journeyman electrician. Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License. Licensed as a Journeyman Electrician by the State of Texas. Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions. Preferred Qualification Valid Class "B" CDL Driver's License. Experience researching, drafting, and implementing standard operating procedures. Five (5) years of experience working with commercial/industrial electrical installations. Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of city, state, and National electrical codes. Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and procedures used in the electrical trade. Knowledge of electrical equipment repair and installation techniques, procedures, and methods. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety standards of the electrical trade including working with high voltage. Skill in utilizing special electrical tools such as voltmeters, ammeters, insulation testing meters, and circuit testers. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, co-workers, supervisors, and the public. Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations. Working conditions are both in an inside and outside environment. May be exposed to electrical hazards.
