Job Summary Applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices in diverse areas of assignment. Makes decisions on engineering problems and methods. Represents the department to resolve important questions. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of own field and related sciences or disciplines, including practical field experience. Consults supervisor or principal engineer concerning unusual problems and/or developments. Key Accountabilities A Gas Pipeline Engineer, Senior Grade will perform most of these duties at an intermediate level Applies strong knowledge and background of engineering principles to transmission and gathering pipeline industry. Develops, coordinates, and directs critical projects or field engineering assignments that are large and/or complex. Provide analysis, design, specification and cost estimates for jurisdictional and non-jurisdictional natural gas gathering and transmission systems. Develop scope of work, manage bid process and pipeline design/construction. Review and assess new technology, processes, materials and equipment. Frame engineering/operational problems and propose solutions. Monitor and support engineering related activities as related to field construction projects. Monitor system performance and prepare long and short-term facility plans including costs. Must be able to make sound engineering decisions under limited time constraints. Initiates or performs engineering studies, proposing solutions or recommending alternatives. Prepare written procedures to facilitate construction, maintenance, pipeline integrity assessments and operation of gas transmission and gathering systems. Provide technical support to field as needed. Prepare and present technical reports on projects. Contribute to the development of the budget and containment of project costs. Conduct studies and analyses to assist in the resolution of engineering-related issues; may assist with developing engineering standards and practices. Leads or plays a key role in Continuous Improvement (CI) training and apply CI tools and methodologies to improve output of job assignments and work processes. Mentors and provides guidance/direction for less experienced personnel. Minimum Education & Experience Requirements A Bachelor's degree in Engineering and three to five years of job related experience is required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, and meet company-driving standards. Other Qualifications Preferred: Gathering and transmission pipeline design and/or pipeline integrity management experience Professional Engineer license and/or Master's Degree Other Requirements: Knowledge of design, installation and commissioning of gas pipeline system including gathering and transmission pipelines, gas/liquid separation, heating and flow/pressure regulation, measurement and odorization Knowledge of planning and execution of pipeline integrity management tasks including ILI and DA, pipeline remediation, threat identification, risk assessment and records management Knowledge of industry codes and standards including applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, laws, and codes, ASME Piping Codes, National Electric Code, CFR 192, DOT, and PHMSA rules and regulations. Strong analytical, planning, organization, time management and problem solving skills Ability to lead cross functional teams Ability to interpret blueprints/drawings/schematics and other design documents Proficiency in computer applications applicable to specific work field/discipline including Excel, Word, Viso and Access database Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people at all levels both within and outside the company. Working Conditions While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a business office setting and at a project site. In the course of working at the project site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including cold/hot, wet and/or humid conditions, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration (see physical requirements above). The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office, but may become loud at the project site.
