Overview Rhode Island Energy is seeking a Distribution Field Engineer in Providence, RI to ensure a reliable and modern distribution system by using engineering expertise to integrate smart devices into the existing network, scoping large capital distribution projects, developing strategies to deliver programmatic upgrades within a yearly budget, investigating and providing resolutions to customer inquiries and supporting operations with technical support. Responsibilities Respond promptly to customer service requests, and reactive operational reviews as they develop. Investigate and provide solutions to address customer voltage concerns, power quality issues and reliability questions. Independently collate and analyze data using department specific tools, methods and formats in order to resolve complex problems. Support continued development, enhancement, validation and testing of advanced control systems such as: Fault Location, Isolation and System Restoration (FLISR) schemes, auto-transfer schemes, Volt VAr Optimization (VVO) schemes, Distribution Fault Location schemes, and advanced protection schemes for special applications (e.g., DG Point of Common Coupling interconnections, etc.). Work closely with SCADA / EMS team to integrate control systems and technologies into various applications used by System Operators, Engineers, and applicable Company personnel. Develop conceptual project plans that, if implemented, economically address identified system needs. Participate in project design reviews and act as the project team lead for assigned projects Present and defend project recommendations for executive approval of both technical merit and financial impact. Effectively form project teams of internal and external stakeholders for the development of project plans. Lead the implementation of engineering design for a specific area through the management of an engineering team and in consultation with other groups within the area in order to ensure design is fit for purpose and benefits PPL RI operations. Make authoritative technical recommendations in order to provide design solutions which have a significant impact on business performance in the short and longer term. Lead, motivate and develop a professional team of engineering staff, prioritize work and allocate resources in order to ensure results are delivered in line with expectations and customer needs. Develop processes and review policies relating engineering systems/processes in order to ensure they are in line with strategic business objectives and meet the needs of customers and regulators. Proactively build and maintain internal and external networks in order to penetrate absorb and apply technical best practice to the engineering discipline. Develop process and policy specifications and criteria and options and evaluate those options to support senior management decision-making in the relevant field. Work with business units to translate objectives into well-defined requirements with clearly defined business cases in order to support change and innovation within PPL RI. #RIE Qualifications Candidate Qualifications Candidates must meet the basic qualifications and pass all required tests or assessments to receive consideration. Basic Qualifications Engineer Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university. Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements. Support Engineer Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology discipline. In lieu of degree, applicants who have PE license in the state of Rhode Island will be considered. Minimum of 2 years of related experience. Senior Engineer Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology discipline. In lieu of degree, applicants who have PE license in the state of Rhode Island will be considered. Minimum of 5 years of related experience. Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for the specific position. Preferred Qualifications Engineer Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by ABET or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent. Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements. Internship/co-op in the energy industry preferred. Completed a power systems course in college. Engineer in Training Certificate. Support Engineer Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university program accredited by ABET or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent. (Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.) Engineer in Training certificate. Experience in the energy industry. Knowledge of 3-phase AC systems. Experience with distribution automation, SCADA, metering, and control. Experience with distributed energy resources (DER), battery storage installations (BESS), and sectionalizing devices. Experience with stray voltage analysis and identifying resolutions. Experience with reviewing reliability reports and identifying solutions to improve reliability. Professional Engineer licensed in the state of Rhode Island. Senior Engineer Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university program accredited by ABET or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent. (Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.) Professional Engineer registered in applicable state. Experience in the energy industry. Knowledge of 3-phase AC systems. Experience with distribution automation, SCADA, metering, and control. Experience with distributed energy resources (DER), battery storage installations (BESS), and sectionalizing devices. Experience with stray voltage analysis and identifying resolutions. Experience with reviewing reliability reports and identifying solutions to improve reliability.
