Position Type: Support Staff - Non Exempt/Health Technician Date Posted: 10/7/2024 Location: Early Childhood Centers Date Available: As soon as possible Closing Date: 10/13/2024 Health Technician Non-exempt Position Title: Health Technician Direct Supervisor : School Nurse Support Supervisor: ECC Manager Contracted Length Term: ECC work calendar: 190 days: August-May (Prorated for the school year) Salary : Building Level Support Salary Schedule - Health Tech ($18.00-$22.40 per hour plus the opportunity for an additional supplement of $400/year for an active CNA) School Summary: The school district's Early Childhood Centers are the largest preschool providers in Montrose County. We believe in fostering relationships with the entire family - not just the student - through a variety of ways, including family activities and volunteering. Our goal is to prepare children for kindergarten by fostering social-emotional, language, physical, literacy, and mathematical development in a nurturing and interactive setting. Our program supports an inclusive preschool environment fostering play and imagination. Our classrooms have typically developing students learning beside children with disabilities. We have three preschool sites throughout the Montrose & Olathe communities but come together as one unified program. DEFINITION Under the delegated supervision of a licensed registered nurse, to assist in performing a variety of functions pertaining to the student health program; to assist in the care of ill or injured students; to administer routine first aid; to document interventions appropriately; to perform general clerical functions in the student health program; and to do other related work as required specific to the Early Childhood Centers and its staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Assist with the preparation and conduct of a variety of screenings pertaining to the health appraisal of students, including vision, hearing, height/weight screenings. Perform routine evaluations of student illness and injury situations, and determine the need for emergency, supervisory or administrative assistance. Cultivate and foster positive relationships among students, parents, and the health team. Treatment of health-related problems, issues and concerns as it relates to basic first aid or plans of care made by RN's. Maintain a highly organized and clean health office. Expectation to attend health service meetings as well as obligations for school-specific meets. Communicate with RN and building leaders when situations arise that are out of the scope of basic first-aid or protocols. Record health appraisal history and the results of health appraisal examinations. Assist in preparation and distribution of reports concerning the findings of health appraisals and in health appraisal follow-up activities. Render first aid treatment to injured and ill students. Follow protocols lined out by MCSD, CDE, and CDPHE to assist in managing the spread of communicable diseases. Provide a quiet, comfortable, and calming atmosphere for ill and injured students. Align care within scope of basic first aid and CPR procedures as well as illness policies and disease management guidelines from MCSD, CDE, and CDPHE Administers medications as delegated by the Registered Nurse. Contact parents or other responsible persons regarding ill or injured students. Maintain a variety of student records and records pertaining to the student health service office functions. Responsible for distributing pertinent health information to other building team members in regards to student safety while maintaining HIPPA and FERPA for students With assistance from the RN, development and delivery of age-appropriate education as needed or requested by building leaders. May assist with Medicaid billing and the development of health-related statistical reports. Record health appraisal history and the results of health appraisal examinations in Child Plus including follow up. Assist with health licensing inspections. Assist with maintaining accurate records relating to health documentation. Will support the preschool and school district with infectious disease mitigation as they require attention. Assist with maintaining safety records and documentation, licensing inspections, and coordination of safety drills as necessary. All other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Principles, methods, and practices pertaining to first aid, CPR and standard precautions and protection from blood-borne pathogens. Standard policies and procedures pertaining to student health services. Equipment, supplies, and terminology commonly associated with student health services. Emergency service agencies within the close proximity of the assigned school site. General office clerical procedures, and automated record management, storage, and retrieval system. Ability to: Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Early Childhood Centers policy and procedures. Perform routine first aid and CPR. Communicate effectively in oral and written form to parents, building team members, and nursing staff. Critically think through student illness or emergency situations and determine an appropriate course of action. Work in a fast-paced environment while keeping accurate documentation. Establish and maintain a variety of files and records. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Google Drive for data entry as well as ability to learn and effectively use other electronic databases for student information entry. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Be honest, reliable and dependable. Approach conflict management in a manner that is effective and supports the positive climate and culture of the organization. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Experience in the medical field and with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is preferred, for example M.A., CNA, or LPN. However, any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be: Experience: Two years of paid experience performing a variety of general office and clerical work, preferably in a healthcare and/or medical services facility. Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by course work in typing, computer record management, and health facility office practices. Examples of this could be certification in Medical Assisting, Nurses Aide, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or licensing as a Practical Nurse. Certificate Requirement: Minimum of current First Aid and Basic Life Support (CPR) certificates which MUST be maintained and current during employment. Medication Administration in Schools, Standard Precautions courses, and Immunization Training courses provided by the District. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions: Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Persons performing service in this position classification may be required to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move another person. This type of work involves sitting a portion of the time, but will involve walking or standing for extended periods. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
