The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation's leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute's efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center. Posting Summary Rutgers is seeking a Assistant Director of Finance Operations for the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies, located in New Brunswick, NJ. Under the direction of the Director of the Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (INTS), the Assistant Director of Finance Operations is responsible for the comprehensive development, implementation, and oversight of the INTS operations budget. The position provides leadership and direction institute-wide for personnel and non-personnel operating budgets, including variance analysis, and establishment of funding sources for multiple INTS programs. This position is also responsible for establishing the financial policies and procedures and producing meaningful data analysis for each operating department to support decision making, developing financial forecasting and presentation data for the Director.Duties include: Monthly Financial Statement Preparation & Analysis Oversees the development of monthly INTS -wide financial statements on both a consolidated and grant-level that identify current financial position and budget variances to support variance analysis and financial statement narrative development Analyzes fund balances to determine burn rate calculations for progress reporting, carry-over requests, projections, and close-outs of research/grant awards; Develops supporting analyses to facilitate Institute-wide monthly budget variance analysis. General Accounting Functions Responsible for responding to general accounting related requests from University Finance Administration and RBHS Finance offices. Responsible for audit requests from both external and internal auditors Ad-Hoc Accounting, Financial Reporting & Special Projects Oversees the development of regular and ad hoc reports for all fund sources to support INTS senior leadership teams' decision-making process and in response to Rutgers and RBHS administration requests for information. Five (5) years of related responsible experience in budget preparation, administration and control in a healthcare/academic environment required. At least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity. Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment are required Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements. Preferred Qualifications CPA preferred.
