Position Details Position Information Recruitment/Posting Title Business Manager III Job Category Staff & Executive - Administrative & Support Department Newark Chancellor's Office Overview Posting Summary Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Business Manager III. The Newark Chancellor's Budget and Finance department, led by the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Budget & Financial Planning, reports to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Administration, Economic Development and CFO of the Newark Campus. The department provides business operations support to multiple departments reporting to the Newark Chancellor as well as direct business support to the Office of the Newark Chancellor. The Business Manager will report to the Senior Director. This position is responsible for and not limited to the following: Review and approve business transactions including requisitions, expense reports, general ledger adjustments and payroll commitment accounting instructions for multiple departments as assigned by the Senior Director, with a focus on the Honors Living Learning Community. The Business Manager will have broad discretion to approve or reject transactions based on compliance with university policies and procedures. Establish positive relationships with the administrative staff in the departments he/she oversees, ensuring adherence to university policy and communication of changes in policies or procedures. Provide training to new staff on department specific GL and project codes and will ensure that they have appropriate access to university business systems needed to perform their job responsibilities. Perform monthly reconciliations of department payroll distribution, outstanding commitment reports, and transaction reports. Analyze reports and assist departments with the interpretation of financial data. Ensure department adherence to budget. Responsible for projects as assigned related to implementation of Newark wide processes such as annual department budget preparation, forecasting, effort certification, and financial reporting. Maintain positive relationships with department administrative staff, program coordinators, directors, managers, and the Vice Chancellors in the Newark Chancellor's Office. Exercise good judgement and tact in resolving a diverse range of issues. Maintain a high level of professionalism while providing very precise, conscientious attention to details and have the ability to multi-task. Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. For details, please go to Unit Terms of Appointment Staff - 12 month Position Pension Eligibility ABP Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Requires a bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field ; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices. Also requires a minimum of five years of related professional experience in a finance or accounting function, preferably in a leadership or managerial role of increasing responsibility. Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities This position also required excellent communication skills, and computer literacy. Master's degree preferred. Demonstrated analytical skills that allow for interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information. Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy. Excellent computer skills and experience using spreadsheet, charting, and other software tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Must be expert in the use of pivot tables and other advanced spreadsheet tasks. Strong writing skills sufficient to draft professional reports and correspondence that is clear and concise. The successful candidate will have the ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regards to sensitive or confidential financial or organizational matters and respond flexibly and positively in all circumstances, and to work calmly under pressure. He or she must also be able to work cooperatively with people from all levels in the University. Requires strong understanding of business and accounting principles, strong communication skills, and ability to interpret complex policies and procedure. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Oracle Cloud Financials, PeopleSoft, Hyperion, and Marketplace Procurement systems preferred. Advanced excel skills proficiency preferred.
