Overview Electrician - Building Operations & Maintenance The Electrician is responsible for monitoring, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of the hospital?s normal and emergency electrical power systems, branch circuits, control circuits, equipment and appliances. Working from blueprints with written and oral instructions.Must be able to work independently without supervision. May be required to work after normal working hours, weekends and holidays. Responsibilities Understand Hospital/Campus normal and emergency power systems. Able to read and understand National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm code) Familiar with OSHA Electrical Safety and NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the workplace). Able to read and understand schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, and one-line drawings for electrical install and troubleshooting Install, replace and repair receptacles & switches as necessary. Inspects work of outside contracts for quality of work, compliance with codes and design standards. Organize and Replace Lamp and Ballast Stock Supplies as required; interior and exterior. Maintain, repair and replace campus interior and exterior lighting systems. Perform Egress Testing repair replace and install new Battery Exit Light, EM light Fixtures, Battery Ballast, replacement Batteries. Perform Compliance Testing on Emergency Power Generation Systems. Perform Compliance/operational testing and documentation to comply with JACHO, NFPA and any other compliance organization to meet local, state and national regulatory requirements Testing, troubleshooting, and installation of Automatic Transfer Switches. Perform electrical device testing in Patient Care, Intensive Care and Surgery areas. Able to use Multi-Meter, Amp Meter and Circuit Tracers. Able to use Megohmeter and/or insulation tester. Maintain, install, repair, and replace motor controllers, Variable Frequency Drives. Completes Research, planning, and estimates for install of new electrical circuits/ equipment. Install conduit systems for electric power and control systems (1/2?-4?) EMT, Rigid, and PVC. Install new branch circuits from existing and new panel boards. Install, repair and replace kitchen food preparation and serving equipment. Install new/upgrade existing panel boards, safety switches, disconnects and transformers. Install, repair, and troubleshoot building control panels, devices and wiring. Install new, repair, replace, test, and troubleshoot electrical control systems. Install building control panels, raceways, devices and wiring. Perform thermal scans of electrical panels, motor controls and electrical equipment. Research and set up temporary wiring for electrical outages for construction and electrical upgrades. Maintain electrical shop stock inventory and process PO request. Prepares estimates and contacts vendors when needed. Performs other miscellaneous task/projects as assigned. Performs tasks outside of normal job duties. Returns Tools to Shop at end of Shift. Perform egress testing, repair, replace exit lights and battery back-up lighting. Able to work Independently on and off Campus Completes work orders daily, enters time in computer, files paper work. Responds to Emergency calls during and after normal working hours. Communicates Work Status to Supervisor/Management daily Effectively manages PTO time, allotted unscheduled/scheduled time off. Arrives to work on time Continues Education on Electrical controls, Motor Controls and Variable Frequency Drives. Follows all departmental procedures and practices, maintains all safety equipment Assists Mechanics, Plumbers, HVAC Tech, Electronic Techs, as necessary to complete repair and preventative maintenance of electrical/mechanical equipment. Work various schedules/hours to complete code compliant testing, system repairs, utility outages, and general work orders when necessary. Complete work orders daily, enter time into computer and file completed work orders. If (applicable) Maintain all mechanical rooms: Keep area and equipment clean and painted, keeps shop area clean and neat providing a safe environment. Maintains valid State of Ohio driver's license. Can operate Hospital vehicles per insurance carrier's requirements. Operates Hospital vehicles or personal vehicle to travel to off-site clinics/properties to complete assigned tasks. Follows all departmental safety procedures. Maintains all personal safety equipment, and keeps in working conditions and available at all times. Able to work on Hospital Lifts, Aerial Platforms, and scaffold systems as required. Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Education: High School graduate- Completion of a certified electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience Associates degree in electrical, electro-mechanical or electronics preferred but not required Preferred:Certificate of Completion Electrical Apprenticeship programState of Ohio Electrical Contractors LicenseState of Ohio Fire Alarm License Valid drivers license required Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines. Experience: Five years experience in Health Care or Commercial building operations with training and experience in motor controls and troubleshooting control circuits. Demonstrated knowledge of the National Electric Code Minimum Physical Requirement: High risk job, working with and around high voltage Works indoors and outdoors, exposed to dirt, dust, grease, unpleasant weather, loud noises, hot and confined work areas.
