Job Overview The Department of Otolaryngology is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP)intern to pair with a post-graduate Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with our surgical team gaining clinical hours and educational experience in the operating room, inpatient and ambulatory settings. The duration of this internship will be for nine (9) months, and may be eligible to transfer to a regular or long-term position if one is available at the sole discretion of UC Physicians and the Department of Otolaryngology. The position entails the APP having an interest in furthering the tripartite mission of the regions only academic center (outstanding clinical care, teaching, and research). The APP intern will learn how to evaluate and treat adult patients in a tertiary Otolaryngology practice inclusive of multiple subspecialties, including head and neck oncology with complex reconstruction, skull base surgery, facial plastic surgery, laryngology, andairway disorders. The APP intern will have access to journal clubs, multidisciplinary meetings, temporal bone lab, and other facilities of the academic health system. A willingness and interest to work in a teaching environment is a must. to function as an independent practitioner with the support of our physicians. They will provide comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients. The individual will provide patient/family education and will be expected to participate in teaching. This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week), Monday-Friday position for the duration of the internship. Essential Functions Perform appropriate history and physical for complex, acute, critical, and chronically ill patients Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests. Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities. Monitor the effectiveness of interventions. Maintain accurate medical records. Collaborate with other providers and members of the health care team in delivery of care and make appropriate referrals when needed. Educate patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans. Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision making using evidence-based practice. Participate in research and development projects. Participate in education of APPs, APP students and medical students. Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time. Minimum Requirements Nurse Practitioner: Required Education Master's degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program. Required Experience Three (3) years nursing experience; additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty. Required Trainings/Certifications Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority. Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty. -OR- Physician Assistant: Required Education Master's Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Required Experience Minimum of one (1) year experience is required; additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty. Required Trainings/Certifications Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority. Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Additional Qualifications Considered Nurse Practitioner: Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse: Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health as Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMHCNS-BC) or Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). Candidates must be eligible and willing to sit for the examination. -OR- Physician Assistant: Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry Candidates must be eligible and willing to sit for the examination.
