Job Description Scope of Position: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center?s mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient?s involvement in his/her own plan of care and reducing the length of hospitalization, The staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement , the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost effective care. Position Summary: The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model. Minimum Education Required 2-Year College Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in nursing Additional Education Desired Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in nursing Required Qualifications Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program required. Current Ohio license or interim permit. *Experience in relevant care setting preferred. The Registered Nurse - Patient Care Coordinator (RN-PCC) functions as a member of the pulmonary team of care providers cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The Pulmonary team provides diagnostic and interventional services and care to a primarily adult and geriatric patient population directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs. The Pulmonary Diagnostic Laboratory encompasses 5 testing rooms and 4 bronchoscopy rooms on 8 East Doan and 2 Rhodes Hall. Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures include but not limited to spirometry, lung volume, diffusing capacity measurements, gas distribution studies, blood gas studies, distribution evaluations, bronchoscopies, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, pleural drains, pleuroscopy methacholine challenge, exercise induced asthma, exercise stress testing and sputum induction. The Pulmonary Team provides monitoring for mild, moderate, and anesthesia sedation. Patients and their families will experience the benefits of patient focused care through the integrated skills of all care team members. The Pulmonary Diagnostic Laboratory is staffed Monday - Friday , which may vary depending on patients care requirements. Weekend and holiday on-call coverage , for procedures. The RN-PCC is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The RN-PCC is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients. The RN-PCC is also responsible for monitoring the processes that address the important aspects of care: infection prevention, telemetry, achievement and maintenance of hemodynamic/pulmonary stability and patient /family education. Feedback from patients and families, physician, and other health professionals is incorporated into planning for support services required. The RN-PCC prioritizes patient care needs and provides leadership to, and development of, the patient care team.
