Representative Job Duties Perform overhaul and repair work on light and heavy duty trucks, automobiles, off-road, and related equipment. Inspect, adjust and replace necessary units and related equipment parts including valves, pistons, main bearing assemblies, and cooling/fuel/exhaust systems. Repair automobile and truck bodies and various related metal work by cutting, welding, and other procedures. Repair and overhaul brakes, ignition systems, transmissions, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies; Repair and install hydraulic controls; tune motors using standard testing equipment. Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements - As Determined By the City Of Southfield •Must be high school graduate or equivalent, preferably supplemented with a certificate of completion of an automotive or truck repair course from an accredited training facility, vocational or trade school. •Must possess a valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL) OR be able to successfully complete the CDL written examination within the first 90 days and the successfully complete the remainder of the process within the first six (6) months following the appointment to this position, as well as meet City's standard of a good driving record. •Must have a minimum of two (2) years full time related work experience servicing a broad range of heavy equipment repair, car repair, welding, fabricating, air conditioning, electrical, engine, transmission, differential, and engine diagnostic equipment. •Must possess considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, materials, and techniques used in the repair of light and heavy duty trucks, automotive, construction and fire equipment. •Knowledge of small gasoline engine repair desirable; both two and four cycle. •Skill in the use and operation of tools and machinery used in automotive repair work.
