For more information, go to: Description of Job The Work Unit: The Office of STI/HIV/VH (OSHV) is committed to high-quality services, innovative public health practice and community partnerships. We work to ensure quality and medically accurate STI/HIV/VH related prevention, care, and treatment services for all people in Colorado. Functions include public health surveillance of STI/HIV/VH; follow-up of people newly diagnosed with a STI/HIV/VH to ensure adequate treatment and referrals to care; access to care, partners services, and treatment as appropriate; developing comprehensive prevention programs; and conducting program evaluation to enhance the use of STI/HIV/VH data to direct prevention and care activities. The Capacity Building Program (CBT) supports the OSHV practices by building, strengthening, and maintaining the necessary structures and competencies of the public health workforce. The CBT activities include health promotion and education, academic detailing to clinical providers, as well as training and technical assistance to community based contractors, local public health agencies and internal staff. What You Will Be Doing: The principal functions of this position is to align, and strengthen collaboration between healthcare delivery and public health in the areas of STIs, HIV, viral hepatitis screening, prevention and care. The position provides epidemiological and clinical updates to clinical providers. The position conducts outreach and delivers updated treatment guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to primary care providers (including the medical care team in Federally Qualified Health Centers, hospitals, Community clinics).The detailing updates promote public health principles of population-based prevention in clinical practice. The position will integrate key principles of community health nursing, including healthcare access, data to care, health promotion, cross-sector collaboration, community partnership, and cultural safety. The ultimate goal is to improve clinicians' preventative services, inform decision making around pertinent biomedical interventions and to continually enhance the quality of care delivery to populations vulnerable to the acquisition or transmission of STI, HIV and viral hepatitis in their community. Responsibilities of the position include but not limited to: Serves as the educational channel sponsored by the OSHV to promote STI/HIV/VH behavioral and population based prevention and control strategies. Collaborate with OSHV outbreak and or other emergency response to deliver, targeted public health messages to multidisciplinary teams of physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, administrators, and other staff. Offers brief presentations on current STI/HIV/VH prevention portfolio in Colorado and provides consultation to healthcare centers on interventions promoted by the health department. Expert presentations will reflect current scientific literature and pronouncements from the CDC; Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA); Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA); and other authoritative sources. Prepare pertinent educational materials including epidemiologic updates for providers Define clear educational and behavioral goals and learning objectives adapted to healthcare practices serving populations vulnerable to the transmission or acquisition or STI/HIV/VH. Develop tailored strategies to assess patients' experience and the willingness and capacity of clinical practices to provide evidence-based preventive services in a culturally competent manner. Work interactively with the Training Unit within CBT to provide expert review of clinical materials Collaborate with the Laboratory Surveillance, the outbreak response staffs to contribute to the creation and dissemination of advisory bulletin, and public health response. At least two years of experience in clinical practice, education, management or research related to sexually transmitted infections (STI) and HIV/AIDS.
