This individual will be tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the seamless flow of data between information systems, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and mitigating data mapping issues. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in creating data maps without requiring coding knowledge or SQL proficiency. We are looking for a candidate who can smoothly manage the transfer of data between different information systems. This person must be able to identify and resolve any data inconsistencies and mapping issues that may arise. The role involves developing a detailed data mapping specification, which entails analyzing how to transfer data from one system to another on a field-by-field basis. The ideal candidate should be skilled at creating a data mapping template and should be able to provide practical examples to demonstrate this process effectively. Candidates should also have a good understanding of the elements of a data map, including a comprehensive list of attributes from the original data source and additional information from a data dictionary. Similarly, they should recognize the significance of a list of attributes for the target data repository, supported by the data dictionary. The candidate should be proficient in establishing translation rules that specify essential data transformations as information is transferred between the two sources. This involves tasks such as defining default values, combining fields, and mapping values from one context to another. The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of data migration and system integration projects. This role will be primarily remote and could have annual travel of up to 10% Competencies: A data analyst with a chemistry background can excel in complex data mapping roles, leveraging their unique expertise in both domains. While a degree in chemistry is important for understanding the scientific principles behind the data, it is not strictly required. A secondary degree in a related field or sufficient expertise in data analysis and mapping could suffice if key skills and experiences are demonstrated in the following areas: Domain Expertise and Contextual Understanding of Data Chemists bring deep domain knowledge that helps them understand the specific context of data, particularly in scientific and technical fields. Their ability to recognize relevant variables and interpret complex data ensures accurate and meaningful mapping, especially in specialized areas like material development and environmental monitoring. Proficiency in Data Tools and Software Mastery of data analysis tools such as Python, R, pandas , and even specialized chemistry software is critical. These tools enable analysts to handle and manipulate large datasets, as well as to carry out accurate, complex data mapping tasks between systems. Analytical Skills to Ensure Data Quality and Integrity Chemists are trained in error analysis and statistical evaluation , which are transferable skills essential for maintaining data quality and identifying potential mapping issues. They can troubleshoot discrepancies in data models, preventing errors like data loss or misrepresentation during system migrations or integrations. Effective Data Visualization and Communication Data visualization is crucial in both scientific analysis and data mapping. Chemists are experienced in presenting complex data clearly and concisely. This ability is essential for communicating data mapping logic , issues, and strategies to stakeholders, ensuring that all parties understand the migration plan and any necessary cleanup efforts in the source system.
