Position Purpose The Controls Technician is responsible for the electrical assembly of automation equipment per supplied drawings, schematics, and diagrams in accordance with company, industry, and customer standards. Works with industrial PCs, PLCs, servo motion controllers, motors, transducers, and sensors in an industrial automation environment. Machines may involve robots, machine vision, and lasers. Responsibilities Builds electrical assemblies from schematics and drawings, including control panels, cables, and electro-mechanical sub-assemblies. Works with team of electrical and mechanical engineers and technicians in the assembly and testing of custom automation systems. Installs cables and field I/O wiring on machines in accordance with schematics and drawings. Wires main power cables, robot controllers, motors, UPSs, and other AC devices at up to 480VAC 3í˜. Installs various assemblies that require electrical wiring, e.g., monitors, keyboards, mice, and task lights. Assists with machine start up and testing. Assists mechanical technicians with mechanical assembly and testing as assigned. Stay current with applicable industry and customer electrical standards. Provides general assistance in the installation and repair of machinery at customer's facility. Determine what pneumatic components are required and assemble per pneumatic diagrams: Tubing identification and callout. Interpret pneumatic diagrams. Wiring/tubing routing. Set-up pneumatic flow controls. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities General understanding of industrial control systems, especially servo motion and robotics. Skilled in interpreting mechanical, electrical and pneumatic drawings, diagrams, and schematics. Skilled in the use of basic hand and power tools, especially wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, cutting tools, measuring tools, drills, wire stripers, crimpers, and grinders. Experience with basic electrical troubleshooting; including use of a digital multimeter. Knowledge of common electrical sensors, including optical, pressure, vacuum, and proximity sensors. Good quality Lead-free soldering skills a plus. General understanding of ESD a plus. Good written and verbal communication skills in English. Good documentation skills. Ability to work both in a team environment and independently. Education and Experience AS degree in electronics or equivalent experience required for this position. 3-5 years' experience in the building, maintenance, or installation of capital equipment is required. A combination of experience and training (military, relevant associate's degrees, etc.) will also be considered. Working knowledge of electrical standards such as NFPA 79, NEC, UL508, and CE preferred. Experience with PC hardware, software, Windows 7, and Windows 10 in an industrial setting preferred. Interpersonal Contacts We are an ITAR protected facility and due to the nature of your role, you may encounter ITAR related project information. Your citizenship status will determine what access you have at the facility. External to DWFritz Possible contact with customer's Technicians, Engineers, and Project Managers. Internal to DWFritz Technicians, Engineers, Project Managers, Project Assistants and other DWFritz Automation employees and contract workers. Work Environment Working conditions include the possibility of working long hours during project deadline and moderate workload pressure. It requires operating power tools and working on automated equipment in various states of production. This job operates in an industrial automation environment. Subject to hazards common to automated industrial machinery. May include domestic/international travel for installation and support (requiring current passport). Onsite requirement. Physical Demands The physical demands listed here are typical for the role and may be modified upon request for reasonable accommodation. The position requires the employee to communicate with others including talking and hearing, sometimes in environments with significant ambient noise. The employee must be able to wear personal protective equipment and gear for much of the workday. The employee must be able to ascend and descend ladders, work in confined spaces, and be mobile / working on their feet for much of the day. The employee may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; bend, stoop, kneel, and grasp. The employee may be working at a personal computer workstation for significant periods.
