Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company's sole discretion and the wage range for this role considers a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At SNAHC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $18.81-$25.45/HR. Position Summary: The Optometry Assistant (OPTA) reports to the Medical Clinic Manager and will support the health center with the organization and logistics of the Optometry Department.These tasks include assisting the Optometrist before and during eye examinations and delivery of quality patient care as well as assisting in the day to day patient administration and office activities. Essential Functions: Completes and monitors patient intake in NextGen, inclusive of current medications, chief complaints, and social history. Performs electronic documentation of patient health information as appropriate. Maintains an awareness of the cultural and spiritual needs of the community. Monitors voice and emails throughout the day and responds thoroughly in a reasonable period of time per the situation. Disinfects and wipes down all equipment and instruments. Follow the Scope of Practice for Optometric Technician as outlined in the California State Board of Optometry. Prepares patients for vision examinations. Provides patient pre-screening eye tests, including but not limited to: retinal photography, auto-refraction, visual field testing, near and far acuity, depth perception, color perception, eye pressure utilizing ocular testing apparatus. Provides information to patients by answering questions and requests when applicable. Maintains inventory of materials and cleans instruments. Conduct inventory of frames at least monthly. Assists patient in frame selection, dispensing and order frames as needed. Adjusts glasses for proper fitting and repair minor issues with broken or damage eye glasses. Provides basic work-up for optometrist, including taking histories and as well as reviewing records for accuracy. Complies with all state and federal laws and regulations, as they pertain to position including; HIPAA, sexual harassment, scope of practice, OSHA, etc. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities: Customer Service Background Proficient in the use of computers Competencies: Operatory and Materials Preparation Patient Charting Patient Preparation Provider Assistance Minimum Qualifications: Medical Assistant or Optometric Technician certificate from an accredited institution. Experience with Nextgen or other electronic health record system. Preferred Qualifications: Care and compassion in working with low income and indigent populations; Skill in working with people of varied social, ethnic and economic backgrounds. Experience in a nonprofit and community clinic setting.
