Salary: Depends on Qualifications Location : Sewanee, TN Job Type: Staff Part-Time Job Number: Division: Finance & Treasurer Department: Business Services - University Child Care Center Opening Date: 05/21/2024 Position Overview Primary Function: Childcare providers assist in supervising the day-to-day activities of up to 40 children ages 6 weeks to 5 years at the University's childcare center including assisting with and leading educational & recreational activities/programs, serving meals & snacks, and supervising rest periods. As a substitute, the ability to adapt in different classrooms based on the current need is necessary. Overall, the role of a substitute teacher is to ensure that students continue to receive guidance in the absence of their regular teacher, fostering a positive and educational environment. This position receives direct supervision in which assignments and instructions are clearly and regularly explained. The supervisor regularly reviews completed assignments to ensure they are correct. Position Appointment Details: Hourly position Part-Time Career Band: NE3 Position Description Typical Duties & Responsibilities: Assist in leading/supervising childcare program activities including educational, recreational, arts & crafts, and special events. Participate in games. Teach activities such as simple drawing, painting, songs, etc. Maintain order & discipline. Direct children in eating, resting, and toileting. Serve meals & refreshments. Perform routine housekeeping: sweep floors, wash dishes, wash crib linens, blankets, towels, etc. Judgement Required: Prescribed, established procedures are primarily used to perform the essential functions of this position. Budgetary Responsibility: None Personal Interaction/Communications: Student Contact: Some student employees. Internal: Operation committee, faculty, administrative department heads. External: Regents & Trustees, government officials or agencies, visitors, parents other institutions, colleges, companies, and suppliers. Daily contact with parents, discussing progress/problems of children Attributes of a Successful Candidate Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: Experience in a childcare setting Job-Related Skills: Safety: Understanding child development and being skilled in providing a safe, nurturing, and age-appropriate environment for children. Care : Provide basic care for the children including eating, resting, and assistance with going to the restroom. Communication : Effective communication skills are crucial for a childcare provider to interact with children, parents, and other staff members. Patience and Flexibility : Working with children requires patience, as they may exhibit challenging behaviors, have different learning styles, or require additional support. Being flexible and adaptable to changing situations and schedules is also important in providing quality care. Creativity and Resourcefulness : The ability to develop engaging and age-appropriate activities, crafts, and games is important for providing a stimulating and fun environment for children. Teaching methods : Utilize stories, books, indoor and outdoor games, etc. to enhance the child's abilities. Conflict Resolution : Children may experience conflicts or disagreements, and a childcare provider should be skilled in mediating and guiding them toward peaceful resolutions. Encouraging positive behavior and good manners. Schedule : Follow the daily schedule of activities and any classroom lesson plans. Colleagues : Collaborate with the UCCC colleagues.
