Salary: $22.18 - $36.36 Hourly Location : Robertsdale, AL Job Type: Full-Time Department: Highway Department - Baldwin County Commission Division: Maintenance Engineering Opening Date: 10/01/2024 Closing Date: 10/15/2024 11:59 PM Central Position Description The Herbicide/Safety Trainer position will help develop and implement the County's herbicide and safety programs. The individual will be responsible for applying herbicide, ordering materials, and maintaining the herbicide equipment. Will coordinate with various sections within the Highway Department to develop and implement equipment and personnel safety training. Individual must have heavy equipment operating experience. He/she will be responsible for successfully completing any other job/duty deemed necessary by the Maintenance Manager or his/her designee. Successful applicants must be at least 20 years old, insurable by the County's insurance carrier, pass a criminal and motor vehicle background check and will be subject to a pre-employment drug test and physical. Essential Job Functions Maintain Highway herbicide inventory. Maintain Highway herbicide equipment. Develop specifications for herbicide equipment as needed. Responsible for applying herbicide to County right of ways. Properly track and record herbicide applications. Provide information to general inquiries. Develop and deliver in-person equipment safety training to employees. Implement safe operating practices with the overall goal to eliminate hazards. Assist with increasing safety awareness and improve overall safety practices. Education and Experience Have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the County's insurance standards. Commercial Driver's License (CDL - Class A) required. At least 5 years' experience in operating heavy equipment. Required to obtain a Commercial Herbicide Applicator License within 6 months of hire date. High school diploma or equivalent required. Other Characteristics Willing to work overtime and nonstandard hours as necessary. Willing to travel out of area as needed. Required to wear uniforms as directed by Assistant County Engineer. Willing to attend training and obtain certifications as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Verbal skills to communicate information clearly and accurately. Writing skills to clearly and neatly complete routine forms and order materials. Reading skills to understand manuals, herbicide labels, and any other information related to job. Math skills to properly calculate herbicide rates and application methods. Listening skills to receive information. Skills to operate the herbicide and road construction equipment. Skills in analyzing and diagnosing equipment problems. Knowledge of safety rules, including accident causes and prevention. Ability to work independently without close supervision. Knowledge of county policies, procedures, and rules. Ability to work with other team members. Good organizational skills. Good computer skills and ability to operate various software programs. Physical Characteristics See well enough to read regular print and numbers without error. Hear well enough to talk on telephone and in person. Speak clearly enough to communicate information. Use of hands and fingers to write and operate equipment. Strength to lift up to fifty (50) pounds, unassisted. Physical dexterity sufficient to operate levers, gears, etc. Body movement to climb on top of or crawl under various types of equipment.
