Job Title: Civil Engineer: Substation Projects Company: Avangrid Networks Location: Orange, CT. Office Salary: The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $90k to 104k Job Summary The Civil Engineer will be responsible Substation designs for major capital projects, input into standards, and training needs. The Lead Civil Engineer in Projects organization is an engineer position responsible for designs for major capital projects in a portfolio of Substation projects. The position is responsible to ensure each project is engineered in compliance with regulations, company standards, and consistently across the board. Position reports to the Unit Manager, but the position will work day-to-day in cross functional project team and support project needs as dictated by the Project Manager and Unit Manager. Experience with substation civil and structural design and knowledge of national and international standards, regulations, and compliance requirements associated with power system equipment. Responsibilities -Project detailed engineering, designs and calculations using standard methodology & principles including all phases such as: scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, engineering design, contract management and design, construction and closeout. -Maintain, & understand drawings (e.g. substation layout, site plan, foundation plan, etc,...). -Develop & specify materials and equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of projects using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline. -Perform standard and complex civil engineering analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology and principles and other viable approaches. Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services -Solve unique and complex civil engineering problems. Analyzes possible solutions and asses each using standard procedures related to lines and power engineering. -Ensure all engineering designs implemented by the company meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes and standards. -Ability to collaborate across departments. -Work independently although supervision might be required. Engineering documentation - Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment- Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements Project Scoping and Estimating Construction and Outage Sequencing Substation Foundation Design Substation Layout Substation Equipment Specifications Structure Strength and load Analysis Substation Material Selection Substation Civil Specifications Physical Substation Design Project Scoping and Estimating Equipment Specifications Construction and Outage Sequencing Industry Codes, Standards, and Regulations Functional/job/business specific Competencies Knowledge and experience in Substations Civil design is a must. Knowledge of the regulatory environment Knowledge company, local, state, and national codes and standards. Knowledge of Construction for utility environments or large corporations. General Skills / Competencies Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills to decipher unique technical and analytical problems, Proven ability to effectively work in team, proven ability to manage design projects, Strong communication and interpersonal skills to articulate highly technical concepts, Strong management and leadership skills, ability to drive change and adoption of new technologies. General contract, commercial and regulatory awareness with the ability to balance effective and efficient customer service and project delivery, ensuring maximum return on investment. Track record of effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management. Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgment to determine optimal solutions Awareness and understanding of key business drivers Ability to devise solutions to both to common and complex problems/challenges.
