Position Overview: Flender, located in Elgin, IL is seeking a professional, qualified and energetic Customer Quality Engineer (CQE) to focus primarily on its WIND market and secondary focus on its Industrial drives organization. The CQE prepares Quality-related analyses, concepts, methods and tools as well as performs the inspection of mechanical components for industrial gear units, specifically Wind Turbine and Industry units. The CQE will also perform in process and final inspections of finished parts, components and kits. Duties will also include supporting projects and initiatives to ensure optimal plant performance, efficiency, and safety. Responsibilities: Major Duties - Drive competencies in the following areas: Prepares Quality-related analyses, concepts, methods and tools, for respective management to decide. Advises business accountable management in specific Quality-related issues. Ensures and implements quality related standards, guidelines and programs. Analyzes working environment and proposes improvements to management. Keeps abreast of industry and legal trends. Drives and coaches unit-related general Quality projects. Contributes to budget planning processes. Trains employees in a specific quality area. Coordinates a group of quality related staff without leading the team. Ensures effective cooperation with both internal and external stakeholders; clarifies issues. Responsible for final product quality prior to shipment. Provides corrective action in 8D format to systemic issues. Lead the final inspection process to proactively address the cycle time requirements of the factory for timely shipments of product. Create Certificates of Conformance and load gearbox documentation to customer sites. Create and align with Customers on deviation requests. Interact with customers to resolve all supplier quality issues. Lead the process of return, rework, root cause/corrective action, and replacement of product. Developed strategic relationships with customers to improve Critical to Quality (CTQ) results and corrective actions. Process Engineering- Interact with Production to evaluate the origin of assembly line issues. Root cause problems to determine if an internal or supplier nonconformance corrective action is required. Create a Quality notification in SAP and provide the necessary documentation to Supplier Quality for vendor disposition. Interact with Purchasing to facilitate the replacement of discrepant material for the assembly line. Update Work Standards as provided by parent office to maintain correct revision levels. Responsible for the disposition of parts that have been placed in quarantined to maintain inventory target rates and cycle time. Prepare bi-monthly reports from SAP to summarize tasks required to complete nonconformance resolution. Prepare for and lead customer audits. Interact with ISO, Intertek, and parent office auditors to maintain certifications. Report on monthly metrics for first pass yield and product nonconformances. Develop and lead internal process audits. Develop and report on Quality related kpi's. Prepare PPAPs, MPP-PQPs, and FMEAs Review Customer's Quality specifications and support product qualification requirements. Handle of specific software used for QA purposes. Participates in problem solving to improve efficiency. Contributes to the goal setting for specific projects, as required. Maintain documentation compliant with the ISO regulations. Support to production in Quality related issues. Manage priorities in order to meet business needs. Minor Duties: Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating and other process procedures, assist in resolving system malfunctions, or provide technical information. Participate in research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems. Required and Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience: Experience working with cranes and focus on safe work practices. Engineering Degree (Mechanical or equivalent) Strong organizational skills Six Sigma Green Belt with proven analytical approach to improve quality and introduce sustainable cost improvement projects. Possess technical knowledge and assembly with Gear Drives (Winergy and / or Multi-Brand) APQP4Wind Experience (preferred) Ability to analyze customer's technical specifications, mechanical drawings, dimensional tolerancing and data comprehension. Excellent team player with ability to work independently and perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent customer service. Excellent communications skills to effectively and accurately communicate with internal and external customers. Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office tools, Outlook, SAP (a plus), TeamCenter (a plus). Familiarity with ANSI, ISO, DIN and NEMA standards.
