Working Title: Database Administrator Institution: Minneapolis Community and Technical College Classification Title: Information Technology Spec 3 Bargaining Unit / Union: 214: Minnesota Association of Professional Employees City: Minneapolis FLSA: Non Job Exempt Full Time / Part Time: Full time Employment Condition: Classified - Unlimited Salary Range: Job Description This position is responsible for operating systems, systems software, database administration, communications, performance, integrity, and security for enterprise server databases for Minneapolis College. The Database Administrator will be responsible for logical/physical database design, development, creation, maintenance, and modification of Minneapolis College's databases. The individual will be responsible for understanding ODBC/JDBC, web connectivity to database hosts, API connections, data warehousing concepts and future visioning. This individual will manage all aspects of Minneapolis College's database uses, from database creation and preserving data integrity, to the ethical handling and accessibility of the data. This individual must possess demonstrated experience with creating and supporting databases and data warehouses in a production environment. Strong communication skills are required in working with faculty and staff in the logical/physical database design and maintenance. Minimum Qualifications 3 years' experience designing, developing and supporting relational database systems or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated understanding of principles and practices of relational database development, security, and support. Proficient in understanding and using Microsoft SQL, Access, ODBC, JDBC, API's, web and network connectivity to database hosts, ETL, and data warehousing concepts. Strong written communication skills sufficient to write, prepare, and edit materials such as memos, procedures, reports, presentations, etc., using correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence construction and clearly explaining complex technical ideas and procedures to varied technical and non-technical audiences. Strong verbal communication skills sufficient to participate in discussions and communicate technical ideas and procedures to technical and non-technical staff and managers and present recommendations and reports to senior managers. Able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Understanding of project management methodologies.
