Trailer Repair Mechanic - Intermodal (Harvey, IL) Pay Rates: Apprentice = $20-$23 Journeyman B = $24 Journeyman A = $26 Journeyman A Lead = $28-$30 Summary: Trailer Repair Mechanics are charged with repairing containers, trailers, and chassis. Repair & replacement work includes but is not limited to, containers, lights, tires, landing legs, brakes, and framework. Job Requirements: •18 years of age or older •Valid driver's license •Must comply with established safety rules, policies, and procedures, including wearing required safety equipment •Open availability (24/7/365) •Minimum of 1-year of mechanic experience •Willingness to work in varying weather conditions •Trailer Mechanic must have basic set of hand tools •Ability to lift more than 50lbs •Ability to pass pre-employment background screen, physical and drug screen Responsibilities: •The ability to diagnose failures and make repairs on mechanical, electrical, or other various systems on a trailer. •Suspension repair •Tank service and repair •Knowledge of air brake systems and repairs •Conducts routine/scheduled maintenance on railroad leased/owned containers and chassis •Repairs equipment in accordance with railroad, IEP, manufacturer & FMCSA guidelines •Documents repairs according to an established reporting system, verbally and in writing •Repairs tires, brakes, lights, landing leg and framework •Performs light welding when required Physical Demands: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds •Frequent standing, walking, balancing while walking on elevated catwalks, bending, and grasping. •With assistance, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds •Must be able to fit through a tank trailer manhole •Must be able to work in confined spaces.
