Job Type Full-time Description Position Overview: Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will conduct critical and complex research and development projects on specific products and components contributing to the product under development. Work independently or act as a team leader. Interpret and establish engineering concepts involved and plan and organize research, development and design efforts. Render technical assistance and act as a mentor to less experienced engineering staff in the areas of design of components or full product. Evaluate test results of pilot models and recommend changes to resolve mechanical issues to achieve technical specifications. This position requires a highly creative and flexible individual who can stretch to support the specific needs of the development situation and manufacturing environment. This is a non-supervisory position. Responsibilities: Personnel: • Work with other members of the product development team to translate customer requirements into engineering product specifications • Will act as lead on most assigned projects • Support, train, and mentor development team members in machine design, strength analysis, manufacturing, and related technology and processes Research & Development: • Research and develop engineering test specifications • create/submit invention disclosures Product Development: • Develop creative, out-of-the-box solutions to product design challenges • Develop DFMEA and coordinate with test plan, train others in creation of DFMEA • Hold technical reviews (brainstorm sessions and design reviews) • Support and trouble shoot the introduction of new products and in particular beta and pilot builds into manufacturing • Define technical requirements in the product specification • Complete strength and fatigue analysis of all design proposals to ensure the product meets the design requirements • Manage own work through objectives requiring sound project planning and judgment • Act as technical authority on assigned projects • Work under minimal supervision Quality: • Assist project engineers in meeting product development requirements Marginal Job Functions: • Other projects as needed Requirements Education: • BS in Engineering, advanced degree a plus Experience: • 15 years of mechanical engineer experience • Machinery design experience required • Proven strength and failure analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Free Body Diagram analysis • Skill with model shop fabrication and testing equipment Other Requirements: • Word, Excel, PowerPoint • Strong and creative problem-solving skills • The role may involve international and domestic travel • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work well with numerous diverse groups and individuals • Ability and desire to mentor less experienced team members Benefits: We offer an excellent compensation package and team-oriented work environment with growth opportunities.
