JOB OVERVIEW The Quality Engineer is a member of the Metrology and Quality Control Team at the GIA. Under Research and Development, we share our expertise and knowledge to establish, maintain and improve measurements in the GIA global laboratories; to develop solid scientific foundations to support GIA standards and ensure public trust in gems and jewelry. We are seeking a self-motivated individual to ensure manufactured products meet high quality standards from the initial product concept through to the manufacturing stages and applications in our global laboratories. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Establish quality standards to monitor and improve the quality of a variety of instruments, complex analytical equipment and their outputs. Develop processes, testing procedures to ensure manufactured products meet high quality standards. Implement systems to ensure products and processes comply with safety regulations and meet expectations. Perform routine quality checks and create preventive measures to mitigate defects and achieve the highest quality standards. Work closely with manufacturing vendors to ensure parts and components supplied according to product specifications. Keep detailed records of production and equipment inspections, root cause analysis, corrective action plans and other reporting requirements. Works jointly with R&D team to improve existing or develop new instruments. Serves as interface between R&D teams and production/laboratory teams. Remain current on equipment/tools through appropriate training, manuals, technical bulletins and other relevant materials. Keep updated on knowledge of new technologies, quality control processes and methods of analytical instrumentation. Travel domestically and/or globally using commercial transportation resources for service and testing purposes. Other duties may be assigned as the business need warrants. Detail orientated to ensure products are being manufactured, installed and operated to the required specifications and standards. Excellent analysis/Critical thinking/Problem-solving skills to optimize current processes, conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective and/or preventative action plans when problems arise. Strong written and verbal communications skills to communicate current and new processes clearly, document inspections, root cause analyses, and process improvements in a clear and understandable manner. Strong interpersonal skills to work professionally with different departments across organization and outside companies, to provide support to, collaborate and work with many different types of teams and individuals at varying levels of seniority. Strong ethics to work under pressure and still ensure that standards are met. Understanding of mechanical theory and ability to read and interpret schematics and site drawings. Ability to create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Fast prototyping capability complemented with small batch manufacturing capability. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in Engineering, technology, or related field ASQ certification preferred 3-5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT (if applicable) Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
