Overview Delaware Eye Institute, located in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is a multispecialty group of ophthalmologists and optometrists. We have a 29,000 square foot state of the art office complex which includes an expansive clinical wing, a full service optical shop, the Retina Center and our Outpatient Surgery Center with two operating rooms. This one of a kind facility, staffed with experienced eye care professionals, is designed to enable us to provide the latest techniques and technologies available in eye care. As participants in many national research studies, our fellowship trained physicians can provide patients with complex and serious eye conditions the most advanced vision saving medical and surgical treatments available. We are seeking a Part time Operating Room RN to join our team. Preferably, candidates will bring previous, verifiable experience in eye procedures, such as cataracts, retina, cornea and glaucoma although this is not a requirement for consideration. RN's with scrub nurse and sterilization experience preferred. Responsibilities The RN must have a basic understanding of preoperative/postoperative equipment and policies related to: patient care monitor, patient jurney, glucometer, pregnancy testing devices, medical gases, AED, and defibrillator. Responsibilities include: Maintenance of electronic medical record. Recognition of the need for narrative recording of unusual perioperative events, such as cancellation of procedure by anesthesia provider or medical emergencies Ability to provide accurate preoperative instructions to patients Ability to provide customized discharge education and follow-up phone call to patients Ability to utilize general nursing foundation to formulate a patient specific plan related to pre-existing conditions, act as the patient's advocate, and relay information (report) to others during patient "hand off" Ability to apply Perioperative & Ophthalmic Nursing Principles to the care of the patient, especially as they relate to perioperative policies/instructions; and postoperative care of vision impaired, sedated patients who have received ophthalmic anesthetic blocks Administer medications safely, adhering to Safe Injection Practices and their implications. Awareness of the impact of patient allergies on eye drop orders. Adherence to Controlled Substance Policies & Procedures Participate in Medication Outdate Checks Participate in Supply Inventory Maintenance Adherence to Infection Control Policies & Procedures Familiarity with Medical Emergency Preparedness Policies & Procedures Qualifications Registered Nurse licensed to practice nursing in the State of Maryland BLS a must ACLS a must Greater than 2 years of experience as a RN, preferably with at least 1 year of experience occurring in a perioperative setting, or other specialty where sterile procedures are performed Familiar with the basic nursing performance standards Basic understanding of operating room equipment including, but not limited to: microscope, phacoemulsification machine, Electrosurgical unit, surgeon headlamp, LASERs, medical gases, patient gurney, and patient care monitor Recognition of the need for narrative recording of unusual operating room events Ability to assess patients' needs: physical, educational, emotional, spiritual, and age appropriate #ESP1
