Mechanical Engineer III Location: North America, USA, Morton Grove Ref: JOHNCRANENA02071 Division: John Crane Job Function: Research Development Job Description Under indirect supervision performs a variety of engineering and design tasks, requiring application of standard techniques and procedures. Uses engineering judgment and responsibility to resolve customer inquiries. Provides guidance and support to lower-level engineers within same area. Duties & Responsibilities Review & processing of Application Requests Following standard techniques and procedures, select products to meet customers' needs, including seals, fluid control products, couplings, filters, bearings Generation of engineering proposals / specifications for standard or special products, including determining cost-effective materials for production In-depth field troubleshooting, including analysis of problems, recommendation & implementation of appropriate solutions Lead meetings with customers in plant or at customer's site to resolve satisfactorily Detailed failure analysis activities, including full investigation / reporting / resolution with customer with necessary commercial awareness Approve or reject purchase or manufacture of fabricated parts not to drawing specification Create or assist in the creation of application software, analysis programs or selection criteria, for new or existing products Develop and implement clear plans for new products and enhancements in co-operation with Product Line Marketing where appropriate Project manage engineering programs to plan Support the transition of a product from development into production Perform and monitor the testing of mechanical seal designs, whether as part of product development or for customer-specific tests Build prototype models for test and evaluation Assist Marketing with design, performance, and application criteria on existing designs or product enhancements Additional duties as assigned. The Individual Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Material Science or Aeronautical. Minimum 6 years of working experience including mechanical engineering and manufacturing methods or a MSME with no working experience. Requires advanced knowledge of personal computing and computer assisted equipment experience. Ability to perform advanced calculations required Work with CSTEDY and similar tools, preferred. Additional Information Key Accountabilities Lead the design and development of dry gas seal systems, including the creation of detailed mechanical designs, prototypes, and testing procedures. Manage multiple development projects from concept through to production, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget and performance targets. Drive innovation in dry gas seal technology by researching and implementing advanced materials, manufacturing techniques and design principles. Develop and execute testing protocols to validate the performance and reliability of dry gas seals under various operating conditions. Analyze test results and implement design improvements as needed. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members. Lead technical discussions and review and represent the company in interactions with clients and stakeholders. Work closely with other engineering disciplines, production teams, and suppliers to integrate dry gas seal systems into broader mechanical assemblies and ensure seamless functionality. Identify and resolve complex engineering challenges related to dry gas seals, utilizing strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and project documentation.
