The Opportunity WSDOT is currently seeking a detailed individual to fill the position of Materials Lab Foreman in Vancouver, WA. The Materials Lab Foreman will oversee and schedule daily operations and ensure the quality and accuracy of all physical testing performed in the Southwest Region Materials Lab. In this role, the selected candidate will ensure conformance with the WSDOT Quality Systems Manual. It is imperative that the Materials Lab Foreman stay up-to-date and current to perform a full range of materials testing including but not limited to, WSDOT acceptance samples, Independent Assurance comparison samples, compaction standards, and compressive strength samples. This position supports WSDOT's mission by ensuring that highway construction projects are in compliance with agency policies, procedures, and practices. The position also supports WSDOT's mission by ensuring construction materials meet agency standards. What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will: Perform laboratory testing, and report results on concrete, asphalt, and aggregate samples following WSDOT testing procedures. Maintain the Materials Management System. Assist with annual equipment Verification Procedures by collecting, transporting, and assisting with certification of laboratory equipment. Complete pavement coring using a trailer mounted core drill for nuclear gauge correlation. Communicate test results, materials specs, and equipment functions with State Materials Lab, project offices, and contractors/suppliers. Maintain materials testing equipment inventory for region and project field offices. Work with Transportation Equipment Fund (TEF) to determine which equipment is up for replacement, conduct re-order and replacement activities. Order and maintain inventory of required lab supplies. Keep lab clean, safe, and orderly. Maintain a safe work environment where there is a continuous focus on safety. Transport, manipulate, and move into position materials and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, one of the following are required: Two (2) years of experience as a , , or equivalent. OR Certification as an Engineer-In-Training AND one (1) year of experience as a , or equivalent. OR A Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Traffic, Transportation, or closely related field. In addition to one of the above, the following are also required: Obtain the Nuclear Radiation Gauge Operators certification within 6 months of hire. Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (WAQTC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and WSDOT certifications, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. A valid driver's license. Experience with the understanding of engineering principles, methods, and practices. Experience with the understanding of material testing procedures. Experience related to computer applications involving databases, word processing, Materials Management System (MATS), Statistical Analysis of Material (SAMS), and spreadsheets. Experience with communicating technical information. Experience and skills required for checking calculations for accuracy and completeness. Experience with interpreting contract plans and specifications. Experience researching and applying engineering standards. Experience with clearly and concisely documenting testing activities. Ability to transport, manipulate, and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Ability to travel region-wide to remote jobsites. It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: Lab testing experience working with WSDOT. Knowledge of WSDOT engineering and construction practices, including familiarity with WSDOT design manuals, the WSDOT Construction manual, the WSDOT Materials Manual, and the WSDOT Standard Specifications.
