Our Prorate and Fuel Tax Services (PRFT) within our Business and Professions Division (BPD) is currently recruiting for an Investigations Supervisor experienced in leading teams through change that finds enjoyment from tax collection and providing excellent customer service. Washington's infrastructure requires considerable investment to ensure residents and visitors have safety, comfort, and simplicity as they move around the state. Our Prorate and Fuel Tax Servicesadministers the state's fuel tax collection programs, as well as the International Registration Plan (IRP) and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), collecting almost $2 billion in annual revenue for the state's transportation programs to ensure investment continues in state roadways. Duties As the Investigations Supervisor, you will direct and oversee the day-to-day work of a team of investigators to ensure unit goals and expectations are met. You will lead a team that supports compliance with the state's Fuel Tax laws and rules through fuel tax investigations into potential tax fraud or unlicensed business activities and education and technical assistance to customers and the public. You will review investigations for proper computation of fees, taxes, penalties, and interest, while ensuring due process and investigative processes are followed and equitable. As the supervisor of this new team within DOL, you will develop expectations, collaborate to identify the best practices, and work to ensure proper standards are being met. Some of what you will do: Supervise a team of investigators including work assignment and mentorship. Provide expert investigative guidance and recommendations, to include returning cases back for further investigative considerations. Develop training materials and plans in both remote and in-office settings. Present investigative results and compliance recommendations to leadership for potential enforcement actions. Manage and oversee complex investigations including significant data analysis. This position will also conduct complex investigations as needed. Qualifications What you will bring to the position: Six (6) years of experience as an investigator with a criminal justice government agency or private organization, or other directly related field. Experience must include: Four (4) years of field experience in investigations. Three (3) years of the following: Using knowledge of legislative and political environments and processes to interpret laws, rules, regulations, and policies. Gathering, preserving, and presenting evidence in a complete and comprehensive report to allow informed decision making. Using computer programs to write documents, send emails, and edit spreadsheets, present information, and have meetings. Experience can be gained concurrently. Up to two (2) years of relevant education may substitute year for year for experience. What may help set you apart: Familiarity with fuel industry records including working with customer records. Knowledge of the fuel or interstate trucking industry. Experience getting others excited about and committed to furthering the organization's objectives through leading by example and focusing on work tasks. Experience prioritizing and managing multiple assigned work products to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday. As provided in , an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and/or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position. Vacation leave accrual rates may only be accelerated using the rates established WAC . Note: Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for exempt employees even though there is no requirement for them to do so. However, agencies are required to adhere to the applicable RCWs pertaining holidays and leave. Military Leave Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Bereavement Leave Most employees whose family member or household member dies, are entitled to three (3) days of paid bereavement leave.
