Salary: $29.61 - $32.57 Hourly Location : Springfield, IL Job Type: Civil Service Job Number: Department: Population Science and Policy-SMS Opening Date: 10/02/2024 Closing Date: 10/14/2024 2:00 PM Central FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: N/A Shift: Days ExemptorNon_Exempt: Non-Exempt Description The Department of Population Science and Policy (PSP) at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU SOM) is broadly defined as a research and policy academic department dedicated to improving the health outcomes of the residents of central and southern Illinois. The Department seeks to understand the region SIU SOM serves, designs and studies optimal approaches to the prevention and treatment of disease, models and disseminates these interventions, and educates future health care providers on the importance of population health to the patients they serve. The Department is focused on understanding and improving rural/small town health by: 1) data acquisition in populations and clinical cohorts for high level analysis to identify determinants of health, disease risk and its determinants, and clinical outcomes, 2) developing clinical and population strategies to simultaneously improve care for all while mitigating disparities, 3) developing and promoting policies to support sustainable solutions to our areas of focus, and 4) providing graduate and other advanced educational offerings to current and future health professionals. The Department uses its research, scholarship, and innovation to design, implement, study, and model solutions to our region's health challenges. Our research guides policy, and our distinguished faculty advise and collaborate with hospital and clinical systems, government entities, educational systems, community organizations, and industry partners on the best means to improve population health. The Department connects faculty from SIU School of Medicine to affiliated institutions, agencies, and philanthropy who are interested in population sciences education, research and policy formation. The Department seeks and promotes collaborations within as well as outside of the SIU system to bridge knowledge gaps, share methodological expertise, and stimulate translational science. The Department's ultimate goal is to contribute substantively to healthier, happier, and more successful lives for the residents of central and southern Illinois, though with special focus on those residing in rural/small towns. Examples of Duties I. Research 100% a. Responsible for the formatting, compilation, and maintenance of research data. b. Links data across multiple sources. c. Prepares data for analysis by organizing information, checking for any inaccuracies, and adjusting and weighting the raw data. d. Processes large amounts data sets for statistical modeling and graphic analysis e. Plans procedures and techniques for solution of statistical problems. f. Analyzes quantitative and/or qualitative statistical data. g. Interprets results of statistical analyses to meet project goals. h. Reports results of descriptive statistical analyses, including information in the form of graphs, charts, and tables. i. Meets and coordinates with researchers across the school to determine project needs. j. Works with others in PSP and the Office of Correctional Medicine to determine project plans and ensure goals are met. k. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 semester hours in statistics and a minimum of 6 semester hours in algebra, geometry, calculus, or statistics at the college level Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience that required the use of statistical, graphical, spreadsheet, and database software packages, such as SAS, SPSS, Excel and Access Supplemental Information If you require assistance, please contact the Office of Human Resources at or call Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.
