About The Job Dudek is seeking a Senior Electrical & Controls Engineer to support electrical, instrumentation, & control engineering design. Applicants shall possess at least 20 years of experience in electrical, instrumentation, and control systems engineering. At least 15 years of experience shall be specifically in the water and wastewater treatment business. Candidates shall be able to produce complete designs from start through 100% drawings and specifications independently within schedule and budget with minimal supervision for small to medium sized projects. Candidates should be certified in AutoCAD use or possess equivalent experience and shall demonstrate the ability to design directly into AutoCAD. A proficient understanding of electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineering concepts as well as the standard US codes and standards that are in effect regarding those disciplines is required. Our projects include a wide variety of engineering including water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping facilities, water storage / conveyance, and land development projects including grading and drainage system designs. Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below): The Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer will be supporting water treatment, wastewater treatment, pumping and water conveyance facilities, and water storage facilities. Independently design electrical power distribution, redundant electrical systems, switchgear, motor control centers, lighting, automatic transfer systems, uninterruptible power supplies, emergency power, standby power and grounding for water and wastewater systems that require minimal review. Design capabilities shall include development of single-line diagrams, panel schedules, power plans, control schematics, and conduit block diagrams for 120/240V systems through 12 kV systems. Independently perform engineering calculations, including load summaries, breaker sizes, conduit and wire sizing, voltage drop, and short-circuit current that require minimal review. Define hazardous locations per NFPA 820 and requirements for hazardous locations per NEC 500 and clearly document them on hazardous location plan drawings. Independently design instrumentation & control systems, including P&ID drawing development, motor controls, instrumentation, programmable logic controllers, SCADA systems, fiber-optic & copper communication networks, and radio telemetry. Designs shall require minimal review. Edit and tailor specifications for electrical, instrumentation, and controls to be specific for each project, starting from standard guide specifications. Create and develop electrical, instrumentation, and control system drawings from scratch in AutoCAD. Communicate and coordinate internally and externally with project managers and engineers of other disciplines. Communicate and coordinate frequently with the electrical and controls P.E. for each project. Actively pursue, build, and maintain strong relationships with clients, subconsultants, contractors, and the Dudek team. Create and manage electronic document file structure, naming convention in accordance with company standards. Communicate with outside agencies and clients in exchanging data and manage that data in accordance with guidelines set. Must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time and manage multiple deadlines. Follow company CAD standards. Follow E, I&C team design standards. Review shop drawings, prepare responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), and develop engineer's clarifications for electrical, instrumentation, and controls. Perform field inspections. Witness the start-up and commissioning of electrical and controls equipment. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to project engineers and designers. Identify changes in scope, alert project manager, and provide estimate hours to complete changes (prior to proceeding). Delegate project task work to project engineers and designers, supervise and review to ensure acceptable completion of work in a timely manner. Create E&I engineer's opinion of construction cost estimates utilizing RS Means data with minimal review required. Pursue opportunities for continuous learning, skill development, and certifications/licenses. Minimum Requirements Undergraduate degree in electrical engineering required. Minimum of 20 years of experience in electrical, instrumentation, and control systems engineering. Minimum of 15 years electrical and industrial controls engineering experience in the Water/Wastewater industry. Licensed Electrical Professional Engineer in the State of California or can obtain license within the first year of employment. Proficient in the design of medium and low voltage power distribution systems and lighting systems, including single-line diagrams, panel schedules, power plans, lighting plans, control schematics, block diagrams, and installation details independently with minimal supervision. Proficient in completing engineering calculations, including load summaries, breaker sizes, conduit and conductor sizing, voltage drop, and fault current independently with minimal supervision. Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code. Familiar with NFPA 820 and can demonstrate the ability to define hazardous locations. Familiar with the NFPA 70E National Electrical Code. Proficient in the design of P&IDs, controls, programmable logic controller-based control systems, and communication networks independently with minimal supervision. Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and AutoCad software, including xrefs, setting up drawings, scaling viewports properly, and use of Excel within the CAD drawings. Minimum of 15 years of experience producing EI&C Contract Drawing packages in AutoCAD. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experienced in independently writing specifications for electrical, instrumentation, and controls on projects. Possess the ability to be receptive and adaptive to change. Possess the ability to actively build and maintain strong internal, external, and client relationships. Strong ability to lead and work independently and efficiently on small to medium electrical and control system design projects. Demonstrate the ability to create E&I engineer's opinion of construction cost estimates utilizing RS Means data with minimal review required. Position may be hybrid and candidate must be willing to travel approximately once per month, if required. Must possess a valid driver's license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by first day of employment. Physical Requirements Working Conditions: This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc. This job requires occasional project site visits-based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment. Proposed Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000 annually* *Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual's related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
